I Love My Windbook

Jan 03 '01

I love my Winbook notebook computer. The model I bought is a XL2 pentium II, 300 mhz with 64mb of RAM, a 4 GB hard drive, a DVD drive and a LS120 – 120MB floppy drive. The LS120 is also compatible with standard 1.2mb floppy discs. Other features include a 14” TFT high contrast display and built in touch pad mouse.

Other features are:
For internet use, a 56kb modem
An infrared port
Lithium Ion smart battery
Composite video and S-Video outputs to connect your TV
Microsoft Windows
Printer port
Serial port
USB port
PS2 keyboard port
VGA Monitor port
Built-in stereo speakers
Built-in microphone
Line input and external microphone jacks
Headphones/line output jacks

I travel quite a bit between Texas and Hawaii and the computer has been a pleasure on the long trips. If I don’t like the movie on the airplane, I just pop one I do like into the computer and with the aid of my headphones, forget I’m on the plane. When we get to our condo in Hawaii, we have a DVD player for rental movies. I also keep all of by business files on the computer.

With the use of dialpad.com and Microsoft Netmeeting and a USB camera, we can keep in touch with family in Texas.

Software wise everything works great and snappy. The one exception is the DVD players. I have three different player software packages on my computer because any given player will not play every DVD. I have always found that one of the players will work, but sometimes it takes a little trial and error to get the movie started. Probably, the newer software has corrected this problem, I don’t know.

Another thing I use my Winbook for is a jukebox. I have an extensive mp3 collection that I put on my desktop computer in Houston. Over 9,000 songs! I put all of them onto CDs that I take to Hawaii with me so I have a great music collection in both places. Just hook up the computer to the stereo and instant 9,000 song jukebox!

I would highly recommend the Winbook line of notebook computers. They are available online at www.winbook.com, which is how I purchased mine. I have had my Winbook about two years without a moments problem. The new ones are even more powerful and cheaper than mine, but that is the way that goes, isn’t it?
