I bought this computer for work use for when I travel. Specifically, I trade equities through a computer network. The Dell 450VT Inspiron 7500 fit my needs exactly.
The Inspiron 7500 screen is a big 15", but that is somewhat misleading, because the resolution technology on this screen is so good that you can fit everything that you would normally have on a 21" screen in legible quality on this smaller screen. This enables me to run multiple applications (news, trading screens, instant messengers) all at once without having to sacrifice one over the other in terms of visible applications. Other laptops I have seen are not nearly this functional.
Such good screen quality goes along well with the DVD function on this computer. The battery life is excellent. It charges very quickly too. We were able to watch one full and half of another movie on plane rides using a fully charge battery. The only movie that taxed this system at all was The Matrix, which I have heard does not even play on some DVDs due to memory requirements.
I am not a big fan of the touch pad mouse, so I bring my own mouse when I travel. For some reason, when I supposedly deactivate the touch pad after plugging in a mouse, the touch pad still works and is sensitive to hand motions over the computer.
The common complaint about this computer is the size/weight. It is a heavy computer (something like 10lbs with accessories). What makes that worse though is the extremely awkward carrying case that Dell packages with this laptop. The strap and strap pad do not work well and are really somewhat painful! If they were going to make a laptop this heavy, Dell could have put a little more thought into the ergonomic design of their carrying case.
