If you are looking for an inexpensive but stable, fast, and reliable board look no further. The EPoX EP-MVP3G2 is probably the best motherboard for AMD K6-2 cpu's. The market has been flooded with many Socket 7 boards but this one truly stands out from the rest.
This board comes with many features that makes it easy to use inexpensive CPU's to create an excellent system for very little money. The board supports AMD K6-2/3, Cyrix, and older Intel Pentiums. Starting with 4x AGP support, 5 PCI slots, 2 ISA, USB and ATA66 support, this motherboard is the perfect blank slate for business users to hardcore gaming junkies. Over the last year I have constructed 5 K6-2 Systems. The first two used SIS Alton 598mr boards (onboard video, sound, modem, etc.) I was not happy with the slow and unreliable performance of those systems. They seemed to be down more than up. When looking for a replacement a system I have in my classroom, I came across the EPoX EP-MVP3G2 mobo. I was impressed with it's features as well as the many reviews I found on it. After constructing one system, I was extremely impressed with the high speed, stability, and slightly lower price than comparable boards. The Via chipset makes fast use of SDRAM and the PCI bus. System boots only take a few seconds on this thing . . .no messing around.
I was so impressed with board, I bought another one and replaced my brother's motherboard as an early birthday present. His system was also using an Alton598 mobo and was starting to fail. Upon replacement, he noticed an immediate difference in system response. To date, I have built 3 machines using this board and now consider this the only board to go with when making AMD K6-2 systems.
On all systems that I have made with this motherboard, I have not noticed any conflicts with any hardware. I have used ATI, Diamond, and Jaton video cards with flawless results. The only downside I can think of is that the motherboard uses jumpers for CPU speeds, voltage, etc. This is great news for gamers who like to overclock their systems but not good for novice builders. Before installing this board, make sure all jumpers are in the correct position for CPU speed and other features. Refer to the easy to understand manual.
The motheboard drivers also install painlessly. As an added bonus, the motherboards CD also comes with registered OEM versions of Norton AntiVirus and Symantec Ghost to make upgrades easier. This is great board and a low price.
