| UCturboBoii's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 4000 Series |
Dell has the best laptops for one’s pocket. The Dell Inspiron 4000, averaging around $2000, has the same features of Sony’s top-of-the line VAIO laptops costing $4000. The high resolution LCD is amazing with bright stunning graphics of a flat screen monitor. It is also made of solid, durable, plastic. Whether it is used for typing up reports, playing games, surfing the internet, and watching DVDs, the Inspiron is highly recommended as a replacement for one’s obsolete computer.
The Pros
For the average price of a laptop, the Inspiron 4000’s LCD is excellent. One does not have to tilt the screen to see clearly. Others had reddish background on their laptop’s LCD screen. Despite the horror stories with old laptops, the Inspiron 4000 has the screen of a separate flat screen monitor. Both games and DVDs is a must see. It is also easy on the eyes because colors come rich and smooth.
The structure, of the Inspiron 4000, is made of solid plastic. Most other laptops are made of cheap, light, plastic. The plastic could be easily cracked when the laptop is dropped. Because of the durable plastic in every Inspiron 4000, one will feel that it is solid as a rock and that nothing should crack in case it is accidently dropped.
The keyboard is soft and quiet, unlike most other laptops. As a result, typing on the Inspiron’s keyboard is quiet as a desktop’s keyboard. There is two mouse function. A round fixed green knob is located right in the middle of the keyboard. The other mouse is a 3X2” mouse pad located below the keyboard. There is a microphone input, headphone jack, parallel port, built in 56K modem, 2 PCMCIA card slot, and a built in Ethernet port. There is one drive that is removable. As an option, one could choose to have a removable second drive.
Internet connection is descent for a laptop. Because the Inspiron 4000 is like a portable desktop, one could type up an epinion while the USB port is connected to a cell phone. At the same time, one could also chat by using a separate microphone, hooked to the mic. input (There is a built in mic. but I would use a separate mic. for better reception). Yet, one could also listen to music from Napster by using earphones, connected to the headphone jack. With two drives, one could “burn” a blank CD from N’Sync’s “Black & Blue” album. The Inspiron could complete all this daunting task simultaneously! Heads will turn and jaws will drop with the amazing capability of Dell’s Inspiron.
The built in speakers are great for a laptop! Although they are not so great, comparing to separate speakers, these speakers are great for playing games and listening to light classical music. DVD is amazing. It would take a while before one takes his eyes off the screen. With a 15 inch screen and a pair of earphones, this is the best portable home theater that exists. One could either play his favorite games or watch his favorite films in the airplane, while everybody is stuck with old and boring airline films.
The Cons
Laptops are slower than desktops. Laptops also hold fewer memory than desktops. To have an option of a Pentium III processor, 512 MB of RAM, and 32 gigabytes of hard drive space from Dell.com would wind up costing a whopping $4,575! Yet, Sony VAIO’s $4000 unit has a Pentium III 850 Mhz, 128 MB of RAM, and 12 gigabytes of hard drive space! Most desktop now holds 60 gigabytes of hard drive space, has a Pentium III 1 gigahertz processor, and 256 MB of RAM for $2500.
Recommended for
College students and busy executives. This laptop is highly recommended for those looking for a great replacement. The power of a desktop is in a size of a text book. One should not assume that Sony VAIOs are better than Dell Inspirons. Sony makes great designs but Dell makes great hardware for one’s pocketbook.
Not Recommended for
People who want a very demanding power for graphics. Although the Inspiron is great for games and DVDs it is advised that one who utilize graphic designs buy a desktop, if possible. It will be a few years before laptops will become powerful as desktops.
As an option, consumers could order a separate speaker from Dell.com. Harmon and Kardon speakers come with thin left and right standing satellite speakers. There is a separate subwoofer with enough power to rock an entire bedroom. A shopper should visit Dell.com and review the features that suits him the best. One could also choose a 600 Mhz Celeron processor, 5 gigabytes of hard drive space, and 64 MB of RAM at $1700! Consumers should also remember that Dell simply offers better hardware for their hard earned money.
