Go flatSep 23 '00 Write an essay on this topic.I had two computers and one monitor, and on a whim I sold one of the computers and the monitor. I needed a new monitor. I made a quick purchase on a KDS Avitron 19". It runs at a max resolution of 1600x1200 @ 85hz. I liked it instantly, but the best part is that it is flat display CRT. It uses a FD trinitron tube and has a .24 center/.25 perimeter aperture grille dot pitch. The flat screen causes much less eye strain that traditional CRTs and makes viewing movies much nicer. It also has a great new feature that is an auto calibration. The auto calibration will automatically fix you vertical and horizontal settings so it fits the whole viewable screen with just two button clicks. Speaking of viewable area it is a nice 18.1" which is better than most other 19" monitors out there. On the down side the aperture grille leaves two very faint lines running horizontally across your screen. I don't notice these at all any more, but at first day or two you will see them. It also has a large footprint which means it won't work well on any conventional desk. Mine is a diagonal cut corner desk so it just hangs into the corner. It is a bit pricey for a 19" at $388.00 at www.buy.com. This is cheap though for a 19" FD trinitron which normally run between $400-500. This is a very good monitor that I plan on keeping for many years until I decide to cough up the money for a flat screen or whatever we are using by then. |
