| DarkAgeTat2's Full Review: Memorex CD-ROM drives |
Not to many people just go out and buy a fast CD-ROM because they want to upgrade there computer. My old 36X died and I needed a new drive. Wanting to stay away from no name drives that sound like an old ford diesel I decided to go with a mid range drive. Not thinking like I normaly do and reading reviews on products before I buy, I decided to purchase this drive. It was one of the worst drives I have ever seen. I have used or at least set up thirty different drives in computers now and I can't say that I have seen a worse drive. The access times are horrible and if you let it wind down you will be waiting a long time for the drive to realize that it's needed. If your CD is not perfectly balanced it makes a sound like the CD-ROM is going to explode and send the CD flying out back at you. Once the CD is spinning it reads fairly quick. It will read most formats and do everything that a $25 dollar CD-ROM should do. Not a fifty dollar CD-ROM should do. My advice is to save yourself the $25-30 and go out to dinner.
