| BedrockTime's Full Review: Dell Latitude CS |
So You Want a Notebook Computer?
The Dell Latitude is an excellent notebook. It takes all the advantages of most laptops and combines them into one excellent high-speed computer.
What do you want out of your Laptop?
People want different things out of their notebooks. Some people just want to type in Word and surf in their bed. If that is your only use then you’re buying too much computer in Latitude. Others just want to be able to sync up their desktop, take their work home with them and run some spreadsheets. Dell Latitude would be a good choice, but you are still probably buying too much computer. However if you want powerfully equipped notebook, a notebook that is fully customizable, and dockable, then you should look at the Dell Latitude series, especially the CS.
This notebook can legitimately be a desktop replacement. The Dell Latitude CS has it all: speed, storage, ease of use, input/output devices, and is expandable enough to do anything you might want to do.
Light and Bright
Sometimes carrying around a notebook computer is like carrying around a dead body. It is a pain to carry around an airport or just lugging it to and from your car. Latitude is not one of those computers. At 4.3 lbs it is not a cumbersome companion. Although you can find notebooks that weigh less you will find many more that are much heavier. Another great feature of the Latitude is the Display (Monitor) when you buy you can get up to a 15-inch display, the notebook I have is a 13.3-inch display. Not only is this a large area for a notebook it is also an extremely bright display. It is a better monitor than my desktop monitor at home.
Battery Power
The Dell Latitude comes with one 8-cell quick charging battery. The time that it works depends on a few factors one of which is what you are doing with your computer while it is on. The battery itself is not very large and it charges very fast at less than an hour. As with all notebook computers you can buy an extra battery. But this battery is an 8-cell battery and you can get quite a bit of use out of it.
Features
This is where the Latitude excels. On my system I have a removable CD Rom as well as a floppy drive. You can get a CD-read-rewritable, DVD drive, or a second 18GB hard drive. The Latitude has two I/O slots that can be used in any combination. This makes using all these features even easier than a desktop.
It also has a video output device that lets you turn almost any TV into a computer monitor, a very nice feature if you get the DVD drive. It also has a touch-pad and knob pointing devices. The Latitude has a 200 pin-connector for docking. Also it has infrared I/O for syncing your Palm or PDA. There are many other features on this computer, but I recommend seeing the product page on Dell for more information.
Support
Dell’s support is great overall. However as I haven’t had any problems I have had no need for the support.
Overall
This is an incredibly great machine. It accomplishes all the things you want out of a notebook computer and more. This machine is the standard that all laptop/notebooks should shoot for. If you are in the market for a notebook I highly recommend this monster.
