HomeComputers & InternetPC DesktopsWhat Should I Know About Gateway Desktops in General?

Love the cow box!

Sep 06 '00

I saw quite a few advertisements on TV from Gateway and I knew a few family members and friends who bought a Gateway computer. So I decided to also get one which was my first "big" computer from the old Windows 3.1 computer I had.

Gateway is really a great company and from the first phone call I made to order my computer they always treated me nice without the big "we want you to buy this" company attitude. I spent about an hour on the phone with them setting up my own special built computer and they explained very well what everything was or how much each thing would be. It was nice they told me my computer's price total though out the ordering process so I could decide if something I picked was to much or not worth it to have. They do push you to buy more 'top of the line' things sometimes but they will stop if you flat out tell them what you want.

The specs on my computer are-

·Pentium II 333mHz MMX
·10 GB hard drive
·128 MB RAM (memory)
·56k Modem (now I use DSL with a eathernet NIC card and external DSL modem)
·17 inch screen

I've had my computer for about 2 & 1/2 years now so when I bought it it was 'top of the line' for around $2,500. I know that sounds like a lot of money but I needed a good computer that will last me for at least a few years and this one will do that just fine.

I've only called tech support once or twice when I had problems with my display and when I was going to install a PCI type card inside my computer. They helped me very fast and fixed the problem, plus they are there 24/7 and it's free lifetime tech support though a 1-800 number which is very nice to have incase something goes wrong. A 3-year warranty and 1 year on-site service was also included in my purchase. I haven't had to ever use those yet.

I can't really think of anything bad about Gateway. I know their prices are a little higher than those "bargain" PC's you can find at CompUSA or a store like that, but the quality and customer care is much better with Gateway. They also offer a 'your-ware' program that is kind of like leasing a computer because after two years (using their finance plan) you can trade it in for what it's worth to get a new computer.

I have recommend Gateway to many people in my family and friends and they have all been very happy with their computers. The "Gateway Country" stores are also really neat since you can try before you buy their computers and they offer different level of computer classes incase you don't know how to use a program or are new to computers.

Now you might be wondering about the title of my review... well, all Gateway computers are shipped to you in a huge "cow" colored box which is funny and better than the plane old brown shipping box.

1-800-Gateway (1-800-428-3929) or http://www.gateway.com is how you can contact them or find out more info.

No cows were hurt in the writing of this Epinion or in the making of any Gateway computers. :)
