| oboejoe's Full Review: Asus CUBX |
I bought the Asus CUBX motherboard as part of my mission to overclock my Pentium III 600 to 800 Mhz by raising the bus speed. I had poor results with my last motherboard primarily because it didn't support voltage tweaking. With the Asus Bios, overclocking is a cinch, as it supports the 1/4 PCI bus allowing components to run at proper speed even at 133Mhz as well as easy voltage tweaking. My only problem now has been getting my TNT2 AGP video card to run stable at 89Mhz - hopefully that should be solved with a Geforce.
Anyway enough of that business. The Asus CUBX is certainly one of the most feature-laden motherboards I have ever seen. It has two extra IDE channels which can run UDMA/66 for doubly fast hard drive transfers. There are enough PCI slots (6 of em or 5 and one ICA) and USB ports (5 of em) for more add-on cards and devices than you could ever use. Don't worry about setting jumpers - everything can be done hassle-free in the BIOS.
The CUBX is perfect for anyone with a FCPGA Pentium III. The only complaint I have would be the lack of smaller incremental bus speeds - you can only raise or lower it by at least 4 or 5. If you're not looking to overclock, this doesn't matter one bit.
