I've had my Alienware Area51:Aurora for a couple of months now to replace my aging 200 MHz MMX system, and so far I am very pleased with it. My only complaint is with Microsoft Window ME (go figure), and I have a feeling that their first service pack will fix many of the problems that I have been seeing.
I ordered my system before Windows ME came out, and imagine my surprise when I opened the box and saw the ME disk when I was expecting a Windows 98 disk. Don't get me wrong - I was (and still am) happy to have Windows ME - it saved me the trip to the store to upgrade. Also, they upgraded the DVD that I ordered to 16x for free. I definitely cannot complain there.
The system is very slick and powerful. The extra video cooling unit is a very nice extra to get.
The case itself is very nice - solid black and a nice sliding front panel.
The unit didn't come with much software as I had configured it, but I didn't mind. I am used to installing software and hardware myself.
I went with Alienware so I could custom specify most everything, and I must say that it paid off. Other companies may offer customization, but few had as many (new) options as Alienware had.
Area51:Aurora computers may not be for everyone. They tend to be top of the line, and extremely powerful - and extremely costly. This machine is one that deal with computers (or just play games on them) will drool over for weeks on end. However, those just wanting access to the internet or something a bit more mid-level, should keep on looking - Area51:Aurora is more computer than you will ever need.
For the money, Alienware computers are some of the best computers on the market.
