When I originally thought about writing an opinion for NetZero a few weeks ago my intentions were to highlight the service in a favorable way. Since then I have had a change of thought about this free ISP and have a bit of information that some of you may be interested in.
I suppose I should start off by mentioning that NetZero offers free Internet access to anyone willing to deal with the unique features that this service provides. These features include a small pop up box that threatens you once about every twenty to thirty minutes with termination of service if you don’t click here. They also include a reminder occasionally that by clicking on the NetZero ad bars you can get valuable information that you might need.
Having used this service for several months now I had been more than content with the service until recently and this is the new information that I have for anyone considering using NetZero for their ISP.
About two weeks ago additional windows began to pop up on my screen out of nowhere. I had recently joined one of those free lotto arenas and had thought that somehow that is where they were coming from since they mostly said I had a chance to win a billion dollars. Yesterday while reading the business section of the LA Times I found out the answer to my puzzling perplexity at the phantom pop-ups.
NetZero has a new toy!
NetZero has just received a patent on a new device that feeds random ads to its customers and there is absolutely no way to stop it. Now I am under a constant barrage of pop ups that I don’t need that arrive while I am typing and screw up my rhythm. For anyone that can’t type well and follows their fingers on the keyboard instead of watching the screen this new toy will become very frustrating, very quickly.
Although I was prepared to highly recommend NetZero just a few weeks ago for being a fantastic free way to access the Internet I am no longer so hip on the free hype that they spew. Time is money and every time one of those nauseating windows interrupts my work I lose cash. I am currently searching for a new ISP and suggest to anyone with a low tolerance for interruptions to avoid NetZero at all costs.
