I have been a Voodoo graphics card user since the days of the voodoo 1 add-on card. I bought a Voodoo 3 2000 when they first came on the market, and I have been very pleased with it so far. After a couple of years now, the card still makes new games look very good, if not quite as good as it's successors.
Great price
I would recommend a Voodoo3 right now as a great way to squeeze a little more life out of an older PC. The best feature of the card is the price. You can get one of these cards for well under $100 now (I paid $130 when it came out). I have a 300 Mhz AMD K6-2 machine that can still run newer games, and it's mostly because of this graphics card. The Voodoo 5 series will do the same thing I'm sure, but not for the same price, and truthfully, it would be a little overkill to put a Voodoo 5 in a 300Mhz PC.
Great Graphics
On top of the price, you get a great graphics card too. I have no problem running older games like Half-Life(which is still popular) at 1024x768 in single player. I usually turn it down to 800x600 when playing multiplayer. Also, new games like No One Lives Forever, which I just installed, run fine. I usually run it at 800x600 currently.
Is anything bad about this card?
Yes, there are a few things about this card that can give you problems. First, I have two of these, and the first one I installed worked wonderfully with no problems. However, the second one gave me fits. I could not get the driver installed correctly the first time, and the resolutions supported were only up to 800x600. It turned out that the card I had installed before (Voodoo 1) did not uninstall itself correctly. So when the voodoo3 was installed it began using the leftover files from the voodoo1. This was resolved after looking on the 3dfx site, and doing a manual uninstall of the files in question. After that it has not given me another problem.
Conclusion
You really can't go wrong with this card, the price is wonderful, and the graphics will get you by with a little style. If you can't afford the Voodoo 5 or GeForce 2, then this is a good alternative.
