I previously wrote an article on the SR9, saying that it was a pretty nice card for the value, which it is for most things. But since, I have bought a few new games, and felt it was necessary to tell what I have found out since then.
I bought Unreal Tournament, and I couldn't get the SR9 card to work well at all. If I used the default S3 MeTaL device, it would freeze up every time, so I tried all possible options, and the only one that remotely worked ok was the Direct 3D, but even then, my frame rate was very low, and I had some pretty choppy game play.
When I used Number Nines latest drivers, the game wouldn't work at all, but if I used S3's latest for the Savage 4 chipset, it worked, just not well.
I also found out that tech support for this card was pretty lame. I tried numerous times to get help from Number Nine and S3, and no one ever got back to me. Then I started reading forums, and lots of other people were having problems with Savage 4 cards with Unreal also.
So I broke down and got a TNT2 card and have had no problems whatsoever! I can no longer recommend the SR9 for gaming, but it did work fine in 2d and general windows apps.
