I recently opened an net2phone account to place calls. My mistake! On a recent trip to Hong Kong, I tried to place long distance calls back to the US. I was at best only able to reach my party 5% of the time. Here are the problems that I encountered.
A error message of "when dialing this number a one or zero is not needed, please try again". (I did not make any mistakes, as when I did get through, it was the same procedure)
A error message of my account number is not valid.
Tried reach customer service, (using 15 mins. of my own prepaid time), to be put on hold by customer service rep. and than disconnected.
Cannot link up with my ISP, as I can hear my ISP line pick up, and my lap-top trying to establish a connection, but no hook up.
All in all, it was a pain in the butt service. As I kept dialing, and could not establish a connection back to the US.
When I could get through, the sound quality was poor, but I expected that as the technology was not up the standards of a wired line. So no beef here.
I cannot recommend this service to anybody who is serious in trying to place a long distance call to the US. It would be safer to pay a little more and go with the MCI's, AT&T, and Sprint. (Irony of all of this, is that AT&T has a large investment into net2phone)
