Compaqs - Not worth the money, time or trouble

As a consultant I was ask to help a friend fix his new computer (you guessed it, a Compaq). He had just purchased it a Circuit City and was trying to figure out what to do with it.
At first he thought it was great because compared to his previous computer it ran faster than ever. HOWEVER, it was loaded with many programs that were Compaq specific, and quite a few that were password protected. When a new user gets a computer and goes to the menu to explore what programs it has, they should be able to use every program. This was obviously a demo for a while by the passwords everywhere. Either that or Compaq has become extremely unfriendly.
In addition to him not being able to use half the programs, we found another big problem. What he purchased was a 450Mhz processor, what he got was NOT. The receipt showed the 450, the box showed the 450, the computer showed 300Mhz. In addition to the lack of speed that he thought he had bought, he was also missing 2Gig of hard drive space! He thought the had bought a 6Gig hard drive, but the computer showed only 4. It was obvious that this was not the machine that he thought he was buying. Right box ... Wrong computer.
I have never had good luck with Compaqs and would prefer to never have to work on them. In the case of my friend, we decided to pack it up and take it back to Circuit City.
He then purchased an inexpensive (new to the market) EMachine ... This may not be the greatest of machines, but it was easy to set up, easy to use, and hasn't given us any problems. The good news is, he's happier than he ever was with his Compaq, and I haven't been called upon to fix the new one.
