| yuagogo's Full Review: Palm IIIe Personal Organizer |
After driving econo-Ford Escorts, flying coach, using Safeway tarter-sauce, drinking RC-Cola, and now it's come to this...the Palm IIIe-cono. It's time to draw the line here! The Palm IIIe is great for those of a homey lifestyle, for kids (they have a special edition that's clear-case), and it basically does almost everything else a Palm should do! Simply organize your life with the least amount of technological hassles getting in your way. You probably already know that Palm is one of the most easy to use organizers, one of the most portable, one of the most practical (long battery life), and most functional palm computers around when loaded with the thousands of software available but you probably need to decide which model to get, right?
I just tasted a buddy's Palm V and it's sinfully blissful to hold. The sharp edges, the cold machined metal, the metallic stylus, it makes me regret ever getting a Palm IIIe.
The screen is clearer on the Palm V than the IIIe and I always thought they shared the same parts...I was wrong. The hotsync crade on the Palm V is heavier and more solid with steel weights. The Palm V has a lithium ion battery so you don't have to worry about buying batteries or polluting the environment as much. Of course, if you ever travel a lot, you gotta carry the charger along with you whereas with the PalmIIIe, you just bring a set of batteries.
One of the first things I did with the palm V was upgrade the entire operating system because it has flashrom! Can't do that with my IIIe. This added new functionality to the device that I can't get! The Palm V really fits in your pocket! Sure the IIIe does too but it's feels a lot more noticeable. Aftering installing a dictionary onto my IIIe, memory became scarce whereas the Palm V can use it's flashrom for additional storage space with a little program!
I can see the issue of people wanting the IIIe because they don't need anything fancy; the IIIe would be perfect for those types. I don't see the Palm IIIe as worth it for me anymore compared with the aesthetic pleasures a Palm V can give since the price difference is about 2X a IIIe. You're going to be using and staring at your Palm all day so it's important to get what appeals to you. Having a Palm V is never having to say you're sorry.
PS: Don't expect you can beam information around very far like in Palm's 3com commercial or you won't be getting much phone numbers from potential dates. :-)
