Leadtek WinFast GeForce 256
I purchased this product in Dec, 1999 because it was the first geforce to market. I was upgrading my cpu and wanted the further benefit of a video card that didn't put a big load on the processor.
I think that there are two types of users who would benefit from this card.
1. Game players. There is no doubt that having the onboard GPU (graphical processing unit) helps speed game displays, especially at higher resolutions.
2. CAD users. From benchmarks I've seen, the geforce does give a significant boost to CAD performance.
Why this product? Besides availability, I choose this product for it's 3 year warranty and the included DVD player.
The major problem I found is that the card is not compatible with the ASUS P3VX motherboard, and that the Leadtek drivers are not up to par. After a month of headaches, I changed motherboards and everything is fine. I am overclocking the video card, and everything is stable.
If you get this card, change to the nVidia base drivers. These can be downloaded from the nVidia site (www.nvidia.com).
The motherboard problem has been noted on several tech sites, and I received emails from at least a dozen people that had the same problem.
Overall a good card from an excellent company.
