| Drawmij's Full Review: Hewlett-Packard Ati Rage Fury |
This card was one of the first attempts by ATI at the high end graphics accelerator market. In the past, gamers had to look elsewhere for the fastest 3D cards, and this proves that ATI has made a serious attempt to bring customers the best in acceleration for the buck.
I gave the Fury a 2 out of 5 on installation. I had to troubleshoot several different memory conflicts at first, but I cut the card some slack being as new as it was, and being a first generation accelerator. (I had pre-ordered it to be one of the first to own one) Plus after installing it on several other PC's I found that problems where few and far between. And since last year, 99% of all of the bugs have been worked out.
On speed of 2 and 3d acceleration, I had to give the card a 5 out of 5. Even though there are cards out now that claim to be faster, the speed can usually only be measured with a benchmark. Actually seeing a difference is virtually impossible. Also a big plus was its 32-bit color rendering (16.7 million colors) over other accelerators which can only support 16-bit.
As for DVD, I found the Rage Fury to be an extremely fast, no joke accelerator. The Rage Fury has few competitors as a DVD decoder, making owning an accelerator/DVD decoder a plus. This will also lower the price of buy a DVD-rom by not having to purchase that extra card.
The Rage Fury also supports several other extra features for a low cost. Tv out for those of us who like big screen gaming or just using a tv instead of a monitor. Svideo, and av cable hook up for a great picture.
Or you can add an ATI-Tv card to watch tv on your monitor or capture entire movies.
As an owner I would recommend one for you.
