Great services, great customer service

Written: Aug 02 '00
Pros:Features, service, pricing
Cons:No weekend support

I've been using WebPerception for about a year now and have really liked the service I have gotten from them. I originally switched over to them from a "cheapie" ISP that had slowed down to much to use on a dial-up account. When I came over to WebPerception, I got a dial-up line and always had great connections, which never dropped or hung. No busy signals or anything problematic. I inquired about faster service, and found out they offered DSL (through GTE) and a special wireless T1 service for $125/mo. Unfortunately, I am about the only house in Marin that CAN'T see their radio tower, so I went for DSL. Their pricing is good, and they have been ultra-supportive.

Being a total computer geek, I asked for a static IP address (which they gave to me in less than a hour), and then asked them to provide DNS (Domain Naming Servers) for my web sites (although they charge way too much for updates - $50.00!), so I finally asked for multiple IP addresses (I now have 6 on my DSL line, which also took only minutes to get!) which only costs me $20 more a month.

The only problems I have had is that my modem died after a few weeks (and was replaced quickly and for free by GTE) and then MCI in Oakland went down, and so did everyone on their service in the Bay Area. Not really a WebPerception issue, though.

Anyway, I love the service their people give me (especially Joe who always knows what I am doing and can figure out what I need even when I don't know what the heck I am doing). My house is now running a mini network which is great. I have a web server, mail server, a DNS server, and my Win98 machine, and they all happily co-exist sharing one line and all the IP addresses.

I would have gotten the wireless T1 they offer, as I researched it and everyone I talked to in the area with it had had zero outages, and zero connection problems. And for $125/mo for full-duplex T1? What a deal. Apparently you can get that in Novato, Terra Linda, San Rafael, and maybe even other cities.

Although their web site is a little under developed, the service they provide is great, so if you live in Marin, give them a call.
