REVISED-Fellowes gel rest & mouse pad-Feels great.
Written: May 25 '00 (Updated Nov 08 '00)
Pros:Smooth, firm support for the wrist
Cons:Mouse pad area smaller than most mouse pads
I bought this mouse pad, wrist rest combo in hopes of preventing wrist strain as I tend to use the computer and surf the net often. I have previously used the Fellowes Gel wrist rest for keyboards at work and really liked it so I decided to buy it and the mouse pad for home use.
The mouse pad and wrist rest comes in only one color: grey (or graphite). It has a gel wrist rest at the end of the mouse pad to help provide support to the wrist. The mouse pad is quite like most mouse pads except it is quite smaller in size.
The wrist rest is covered in a velvet-like Lycra material that feels smooth to the touch. The gel rest conforms and molds to the pressure of the wrist but yet provides a firm support. I really like the feel of resting the wrist on it due to the smoothness of the rest cover and the support it provides. If you surf the net and use the computer over any length of time, it is great to prevent wrist strain and after using it for a while, I think it helps. According to Fellowes, the rest is ergonomically designed to redistribute pressure points for forearm and wrist comfort. The gel rest can be easily removed for cleaning as it just falls out when flipped upside down. The non-skid base also helps to keep the mouse pad from moving, an annoyance I disliked with regular mouse pads.
Compared to other gel like mouse pad, I prefer this one because for one, I've already bought the Fellowes gel wrist rest for my keyboard and really like the design of it. The gel feels cool to the touch and is great to keep your wrist cool, especially when you've been surfing the net for a while. Also, unlike other gel mouse pads that are too soft and its gel moves too much, I prefer this one because it is soft enough to provide comfort but firm enough to provide support without shifting too much.
I would strongly recommend this product to all computer users who wish to prevent wrist strain from using the mouse. But, like the gel wrist rest, you may never want to use a computer without it once you've used it.
