| duke2106's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 5000 R600LG |
I was in the market to replace my aging 166mmx laptop. After looking around(and checking the discounts that my company gives) I chose this Dell inspiron. I originally ordered the p3-600/500, 128mb ram, 12 gig hard drive, 24x cdrom and xircom 10/100-56k modem combo card, but my delivery was put off a few weeks due to supply problems. However, when I got my computer, I found that I got a 15" display instead of the 14.1" I originally ordered. I could only speculate that they did that because I had to wait that long, but I'm glad that they did that anyway! This 15" display is vibrant and crisp, and with only one dead/weird pixel that I could find. This didn't detract from the notebook at all.
The touchpad is probably the best touchpad that I've used. And it's very customizable, from having scroll zones near the edges of the touchpad that simulate a wheel on a mouse, but there is also a horizontal scroll zone for those wide documents.
On top of that, the keyboard is top-notch. It is pretty quiet, with enough key travel that doesn't make me think that I'm going to break it. The Logitech Mouseman Wheel optical works great with the system, but the intellimouse optical from microsoft doesn't for some reason.
For those that are looking for a desktop replacement, or for just a great laptop computer to run their games while they are at college or wherever, this is a great computer to get.
