The 3com HomeConnect Digital Camera has made me very glad that I checked the market and desided to spend a little extra cash to get a desktop camera that suited my needs. My home is often a victim of "low light" due to it being an apartment and having a small baby who finds bright lights to be something she enjoys screaming about. This camera, however, performs where my hand-held Digital Camera will not.
I have played with this camera and found that even by the light of two candles in a room, it can still pick up images. These images do become discolored and the frame rate becomes very slow, but that is to be expected. When dropped into 8-bit, black and white, mode, the camera performs what I could simply call wonders by such dim light.
The USB connection to the computer, while not as fast as a PCI port, is great due to its ease of connection and the fact that you never have to crack open your case to insert a new card. For those game-buffs out there, even if you have a mini-tower case, this camera will save you having to remove any other of your favorite daughter-cards to make space for a new connection!
I personally use this camera so that my wife can see our newborn baby at work. I simply point it at her play area and leave it running!
All in all, this camera is a sure thing. Even the software provided with it, while some are unregistered demos, is great!
