I came across Coolchat.com a few months ago while looking for a new web page provider. After visiting the site I became interested and signed up for my free web page. The sign up process was quick and painless, so I was then ready to build my page. I found the "Easy Web Page" link and clicked.

The first option you have under that link is your home page title. That was is pretty self explanatory so I will go to the next: Your home page graphics. This included two graphics: welcome and email. After I built my page I decided to see how it would look with those graphics added in. I was given about six choices for graphics a piece. After choosing my graphics and previewing my page I decided that I did not want the "Welcome" graphic after all. When I tried to remove it I ran into a small problem: I couldn't! Once I had chosen a graphic, I had to have one. I was unable to add my own welcome graphic, so I was S.O.L.

Next you have two choices for backgrounds. The second link is to textured backgrounds. They have a handful of those, none of which are in my taste. Therefore I chose a plain color background, which is under the first link. In that link you will also find the usual text, visited link, active link, etc.... colors. Just chose whatever you like best and you're set there.

Now you are ready to start the actual body of your page. Near the bottom of the page you will find links to upload images and videos for your 'blocks.' A block is basically a paragraph with a picture and a video if you would like to add one. I was a bit disappointed at not having any choice about the layout of my page. You are allowed to chose the location of the picture as to the text (Picture Top, Text Bottom; Picture Right, Text Left...), but that is the only choice you are allowed to make. The rest is done for you.

After you get the body done all you have left to do is add in your contact information and favorite links. You may only have five links, another feature I find disappointing, for I have many web pages out there. However I'd imagine that for most five would be enough.

I got a surprise when I previewed my page. I couldn't believe how nicely the page was setup. It was very appealing to the eye. I constantly get compliments from my friends about having such a nice page. The only problem was I wanted to add on more pages like that to my site. I then found that you are allowed one page only. Therefore I was forced to find another server so that I could expand my page.


More advanced users like myself would probably become frustrated at the lack of options. This site is a good one for beginners looking to set up a page. The address is fairly easy to remember. No html is required, everything is very easy to setup, and you get a good looking first page out of it. If you would like to view my page as an example follow this link:
