We got this writer 2 weeks ago. After easy installation it wouldn't make a c.d. at all. Being my stubborn self I wasted 3 cdr's until I called and asked for help. Unfortunately there was no 800 # so we will have a small charge on our phone bill this month. Quickly after I told the lady my problem she told me how to fix it. SLOW IT DOWN.
What I can't figure is how they can tell me it records cd's sooo fast, and then I have to slow it down to 2x or 4x to make it work. It's not like I have a slow computer. We have a 550 MHz computer with 64 MB. of ram. After changing the setting to 2x (for audio), and 4x (for data) it worked great.
Another thing I was informed about by the customer service rep. was they don't recommend using 80 min. disks in the drive. The disks will work, but you have to leave them slightly unfilled or they won't read correctly.

Besides what I have told you about so far the drive is excellent. I only had to wait a few minutes for customer service (3 days via e-mail). It comes with very simple to use software. After slowing the drive down I haven't had any problems recording. It even came with a free Labeler! SO in the end I do recommend this drive.
