When I came to school this year, I decided I deserved a nice computer seeing I spend the great majority of my time at Williams College in front of my computer. I have always been a Mac user and think that the ease of use of a Mac is worth the extra price. The PowerMac G4 has only bolstered this opinion.
When I received my new G4 in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered before the release date and Apple delivered to my dorm, on time, for free, and gave me a student discount! The excitement continued as I tested out my new toy. All my applications opened instantly, it ran faster then anything I’d ever used, and the new video card made for sharp graphics.
I ordered my new computer with a DVD drive, 128MB of RAM, and a 17" studio monitor. I glad I made these choices. The DVD is perfect for a dorm room and the extra RAM is more useful than I thought because the system software takes up much more memory than I expected and I keep about a dozen programs open at any given time.
The only problems I have encountered are with the DVD ROM drive. The device works fine with DVD’s but when I am using music CD’s it seems to take an extraordinary long time to recognize the disc.
On the whole PowerMac G4 is the greatest computer I have ever used. It is fast and easy to use, and as computers go, it is problem free. Give Macs a try and loosen the Microsoft stranglehold.
