The first time in 2 years my hands didn't ache after work...

by sleah , Oct 24 '00
Pros: truly alleviates muscle strain
Cons: adjustment period; expensive
...was a week after I started using this keyboard 6 months ago. I don't have any diagnosed syndromes like RSI, but since I work at a computer all day and tend to be a fast typer, my hands and fingers usually ache by mid-day.

When I finally...

Contour keyboard a lifesaver for people with RSI

by afeinman , Jan 04 '00
Pros: Great design; incredible flexibility in programming; durable; really good tech support.
Cons: No good for hunt-and-peckers; expensive
From its stylish design (it's the keyboard used by K in "Men In Black", minus a paint job) to its easy feel, the Contour keyboard is a definite win for anyone concerned enough about their health to see that the ergo keyboards provided by Microsoft and...

Not just a keyboard--a whole new way to type

by Blanche21 , Jan 07 '01
Pros: excellent positioning of alpha, arrow and delete keys
Cons: none I can think of
I’m a professional writer with repetitive stress injuries (RSIs) in both arms: carpal tunnel syndrome in one, tendonitis in the other. So my husband bought me a Kinesis Classic M/PC ergonomic keyboard for Christmas.

The unit features a...

Some programmability problems, but awesome product!

by ryanha , Mar 31 '00
Pros: Most comfortable keyboard made, 5 stars for ergonomics!
Cons: Macro feature sometimes locks up keyboard BIOS requiring reboot.
These keyboards are awesome, despite their price cost. I have 2 at work and 2 at home. I use the Professional QD model with the DVORAK keys. I can type way faster than I used to be able to on a standard keyboard/standard layout. It did take some time to...

A lifesaver!

by mhudack , Mar 26 '00
Pros: no pain!
Cons: a little adjustment time
Oh, what a lifesaver. After almost a year with serious RSI (to the point where I would wake up in the middle of the night from pain and numbness in my wrists) I decided I had to do something about it.

After careful research I settled on the...

From a programmer's point of view

by calalumni , Feb 15 '02
Pros: light keys, ctrl/alt/enter/etc are thumb operations, highly programmable, professional feel
Cons: cost, SHIFT key still pinky operated, macro feature occasionally locks up
First of all it is important to read this in context. Without context, this review would be less relevant to you as the reader.

I am a 28 year old computer programmer. I've been programming since I was 10 years old (QuickBasic, Turbo Pascal,...

Just my type

by drdavidhartman , Jun 23 '00
Pros: lets you type without pain
Cons: takes a few hours to get used to it.
They'll have to pry this keyboard out of my cold, dead fingers. . .which will never happen, because the Kinesis keyboard is very kind to fingers, wrists and tendons. I type reports for hours at a time, and I couldn't do without this keyboard. I started...
