Pros: Options Galore, up to 1.2 PIII-M processor, powerful enough against desktops, Eye-Popping Screen, Stylish Cons: Sound/Speakers
Summary: Although I am really writing about the latest incarnation of the Inspiron 4xxx line, the 4100, many things apply to the 4000 model as well. The 4000 model in a middle of the line notebook that was powerful enough to be a desktop replacement but much ... read more

Pros: Very good out of the box. Cons: Poor answers and resolutions from customer service. Bad Depot Service
Summary: I had a problem with my 4000 Inspiron, which was under the three year depot service contract. First calls to service seemed like a guessing game. Problem was first diagnosed as corrupt O/S, and a "dirty load" was suggested as a fix. Cure didn't work. ... read more

Pros: used to be good, not any more (quality) Cons: very poor quality notebook
Summary: I bought an inspiron 4000 on 3/27/2001.
In the past year, I used it fewer than 30 times.
In Feb, I noticed that strange sound from the place
(in the left side back) where the AC adapter
is plugged into the computer (the sound is like ... read more

Pros: Attractive, light weight Cons: Poor design, tech support not knowledgeable
Summary: My Inspiron 4000 is a 800 MHz Pentium III, I've had it for 1 year. Some of the benefits are that it is light-weight, yet the screen is large enough that I use it as my primary computer.
Often, the system sticks and the only way to reset it is ... read more

Pros: None really, other than the price, but you pay for what you get Cons: horrible quality control, the worst "support" I have ever had to deal with
Summary: I bought this for the price, and I guess I paid for what I got. Horrible support, that will not address any of your problems in a timely matter. Nor will they solve any of your problems. Poor quality standards are about the best way to describe this ... read more

Pros: Decent price, good specs Cons: None really, except lots of competition, so make sure you shop around
Summary: I've had this laptop for about half a year now. It hasn't given me any problems. I upgraded the RAM a couple of months ago, and it was extremely easy to do.
The price of this machine is quite competitive, but I got it during one of dell's ... read more

Pros: fairly quick Cons: LCD, mouse, mouse button, hard drive, broke.
Summary: First off, I've sent in my Dell Inspiron 4000 4 times in the past 4 months for the LCD, mouse, mouse button, hard drive, and battery latch. The laptop is of very little use to me when it's always at the depot getting fixed. And they absolutely refuse ... read more

Pros: Decent performance , Lightweight , Stable, Great Tech Support Cons: Poor build quality , Placement of some ports , Lousy keyboard.
Summary: Purchased Oct 2000.
Having owned my Inspiron 4000 for about a year and a half I feel qualified to give an informative review.
At the time I paid $1500 for my laptop and it was easily the best deal out there at that time. As soon as I ... read more

Summary: I've had this, my 4th Windows laptop, for nearly a year now. Here are my impressions:

Pros: Excellent screen, great looks and lean design. Cons: Bad construction, cheap keyboard feel, price, only 1 USB port.
Summary: Oct 8 2002 update
Noted a scratch mark on my LCD screen that keeps on appearing after I've cleaned it up.
When the laptop is closed, the screen actually touches the ridge between the mouse pad and the keyboard, causing the mark... ... read more

Pros: Fast, customizable, good web support Cons: Terrible phone support, not enough ports, ships with Windows ME
Summary: Customizing my Inspiron 4000 was really exciting. The great thing about it is how customizable it is. 128MB or 256MB of RAM? 10GB or 20GB hard Drive? Dell really gives you the choice. Not only does this customizability save you money by eliminating ... read more

Pros: Sturdy machine; manageable weight Cons: Drive bay never catches; parts tend to fail; never shuts down properly
Summary: I've now owned a Dell Inspiron 4000 for nearly a year. In that time, I have come to suspect that Dell has slipped in it's attention to reliability and dependability. This is likely the last Dell machine I'll by.
For starters, the hard drive ... read more
