Bad Depot Service - Bad Customer Service

by jiml3222 , Mar 29 '06
Pros: Very good out of the box.
Cons: Poor answers and resolutions from customer service. Bad Depot Service
I had a problem with my 4000 Inspiron, which was under the three year depot service contract. First calls to service seemed like a guessing game. Problem was first diagnosed as corrupt O/S, and a "dirty load" was suggested as a fix. Cure didn't work....

Not so much...

by dot4f , Mar 26 '04
Pros: Looks, Features, Size, Weight -Looks great on paper!
Cons: Lots Broke, Dell's Support, Price, Hot on legs,
I purchased a Dell Inspiron 4000 a while ago… It was a Pentium III 850 with SpeedStep to 700Mhz. When I received the laptop, I was very excited. I had an Apple Ibook at the time (a new white small one) and several desktops – I just got the ...

mother board burned after using few than 30 time is 14 month

by lt00 , Aug 07 '02
Pros: used to be good, not any more (quality)
Cons: very poor quality notebook
I bought an inspiron 4000 on 3/27/2001.
In the past year, I used it fewer than 30 times.
In Feb, I noticed that strange sound from the place
(in the left side back) where the AC adapter
is plugged into the computer (the sound is like...

Not a Best Buy

by mousey0925 , Aug 04 '02
Pros: Attractive, light weight
Cons: Poor design, tech support not knowledgeable
My Inspiron 4000 is a 800 MHz Pentium III, I've had it for 1 year. Some of the benefits are that it is light-weight, yet the screen is large enough that I use it as my primary computer.

Often, the system sticks and the only way to reset it is...

Buyer be Ware

by mrchanl , Jul 19 '02
Pros: None really, other than the price, but you pay for what you get
Cons: horrible quality control, the worst "support" I have ever had to deal with
I bought this for the price, and I guess I paid for what I got. Horrible support, that will not address any of your problems in a timely matter. Nor will they solve any of your problems. Poor quality standards are about the best way to describe this...

I don't know if it's ME or what...

by radian , Jun 18 '02
Pros: Great picture quality, good sound, lightweight.
Cons: Tech support, Windows ME, miscellaneous glitches.
I recieved my Inspiron 4000 as a gift. It is the 700 Mhz Pentium III, with the large capacity 8 cell battery, internal CD rom (interchangeable with a disk drive that also came with it), 10 GB hard drive, came with Windows ME loaded as well as lots of...

One of the better laptops on the market

by athxu , May 21 '02
Pros: Decent price, good specs
Cons: None really, except lots of competition, so make sure you shop around
I've had this laptop for about half a year now. It hasn't given me any problems. I upgraded the RAM a couple of months ago, and it was extremely easy to do.

The price of this machine is quite competitive, but I got it during one of dell's...

Tech. Support Nightmare

by smjacobs , Mar 13 '02
Pros: fairly quick
Cons: LCD, mouse, mouse button, hard drive, broke.
First off, I've sent in my Dell Inspiron 4000 4 times in the past 4 months for the LCD, mouse, mouse button, hard drive, and battery latch. The laptop is of very little use to me when it's always at the depot getting fixed. And they absolutely refuse...

Good Value for money but some flaws

by hatetoshave , Mar 04 '02
Pros: Decent performance , Lightweight , Stable, Great Tech Support
Cons: Poor build quality , Placement of some ports , Lousy keyboard.
Purchased Oct 2000.
Having owned my Inspiron 4000 for about a year and a half I feel qualified to give an informative review.

At the time I paid $1500 for my laptop and it was easily the best deal out there at that time. As soon as I...

Should be sold with earplugs

by sleestak7 , Feb 07 '02
Pros: Light, small, semi-integrated modem and NIC
Cons: Loud fans, awkward port locations, poor speakers, no Firewire, ugly color panels
I've had this, my 4th Windows laptop, for nearly a year now. Here are my impressions:

***The good***
Size/Weight:
It's about 6 pounds, plus the power brick and accessories.

No floppy:
I specifically wanted a light,...

Rough product

by niao , Jan 16 '02
Pros: Excellent screen, great looks and lean design.
Cons: Bad construction, cheap keyboard feel, price, only 1 USB port.
Oct 8 2002 update

Noted a scratch mark on my LCD screen that keeps on appearing after I've cleaned it up.

When the laptop is closed, the screen actually touches the ridge between the mouse pad and the keyboard, causing the mark......

Inspiron 4000 to 4100 ... One of the best notebooks out there!

by yusakugo Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Dec 23 '01
Pros: Options Galore, up to 1.2 PIII-M processor, powerful enough against desktops, Eye-Popping Screen, Stylish
Cons: Sound/Speakers
Although I am really writing about the latest incarnation of the Inspiron 4xxx line, the 4100, many things apply to the 4000 model as well. The 4000 model in a middle of the line notebook that was powerful enough to be a desktop replacement but much...

Inspiron 4000: Plenty of Power for the price but lacking premier options

by crenda , Dec 15 '01
Pros: Fast, customizable, good web support
Cons: Terrible phone support, not enough ports, ships with Windows ME
Customizing my Inspiron 4000 was really exciting. The great thing about it is how customizable it is. 128MB or 256MB of RAM? 10GB or 20GB hard Drive? Dell really gives you the choice. Not only does this customizability save you money by eliminating...

The Old Grey Dell She Ain't What She Used To Be

by peterme , Dec 09 '01
Pros: Sturdy machine; manageable weight
Cons: Drive bay never catches; parts tend to fail; never shuts down properly
I've now owned a Dell Inspiron 4000 for nearly a year. In that time, I have come to suspect that Dell has slipped in it's attention to reliability and dependability. This is likely the last Dell machine I'll by.

For starters, the hard drive...

Dell-ivers all the time

by tjrbu , Dec 09 '01
Pros: Light, Large Screen, Battery life, Features
Cons: lightweight chassis, DVD-ROM sporadic
This is the best laptop I have ever owned and I have owned a few.
Battery: When used properly, can last up to 3 hours on one charge. Good enough to watch a DVD on an airplane ride.
Screen: Big and Bright.
I can't say enough about this...
