Inspiron 8000 with Linux -- great!

by j_cricket , Oct 01 '08
Pros: Easy installation of Kubuntu Linux (32-bit) on Dell Inspiron 8000.
Cons: None.
This computer came pre-installed with Windows 2000 Pro, which is not a terrible OS. It is slow, however.Still, like all things Windows, it eventually got hit with something. A virus, a trojan, a "malicious update" installed by Microsoft itself. ...

How can a laptop this gorgeous be so fast?

by dmatsumo , Dec 21 '00
Pros: BEAUTIFUL LCD screen, high resolution, great peripheral connectivity, wonderful DVD playback
Cons: steep price, poorly designed opening mechanism, pointing stick phantom clicks!
We recently shipped our older Inspiron 7500 field support laptop out with our east coast sales rep, and we were so sad to see it go. The Inspiron just looked like a beast. It had a very square edges, it was quite heavy, but it had an enormous LCD and...

a cozy mobile desktop

by vectorlime , Jan 17 '01
Pros: sexy... powerhouse...
Cons: heavy... 2 hour battery...
I can not say enough positive comments about this mobile pc. I love the design... subtle, stealth, and cozy... like a pillow. Though, most people say the sony vaio computers are the sexy 'windows' machines, I happen to think they look cheep and toy like....

by robsden , Aug 22 '02
Pros: Powerful enough to be a desktop replacement, reliable.
Cons: Heavy.
I got my Dell Inspiron 8000 in May 2001 and I've been quite happy with it. I'm a professional developer and I work at the client's site on my computer.

The winning points for me were: double your memory and disk drive for free, ability to...

Pros: powerful processor, hi-res screen, 2 USB ports, both types of mice
Cons: slightly heavy
My previous laptop had an AMD K62 processor (333MHz), 96MB RAM and a 13" 800x600 screen, so when I upgraded to the Inspiron 8000, I was completely blown away. My configuration has the 850 MHz PIII processor, a 15" SXGA+ screeen (1400x1050 res), and...

Cons: Quirky touchpad, heavy, no hard reset button.
I purchased the Inspiron 8000 after returning the Inspiron 3800 to Dell that I was somewhat dissatisfied with. Needless to say, I was impressed with this system from the moment I opened it up.

No other laptop can compare!

by pstans , Feb 15 '01
Pros: Mind Blowing Speed, Amazing Video Quality, Fantastic Screen Resolutions!
Cons: Size I guess, but then if you want lightweight, you wouldn't buy an 8000 right?
Dell, as usual, has put the laptop market on its head. Yes, it is large, yes it is heavier, but if you are wanting light weight, you will choose something else right.

I wanted power, I wanted performance, and I wanted a large high...

I bought my I8K a year ago, and I love it! I have had no problems with it, and I have been giving it hell. I have never seen a computer (except its brother, a DEll XPS T750) work so hard.
