Pros: Reliable and alot of power for the money if bought used.
Cons: Hardrive options limited to 4.3gigs - a little small for dual booting

Summary: The eslate 400 and 450 are great bargains on the used laptop market. I have one of each and have had good luck running a dual boot Win98 and Redhat Linux 7.0 on my 400 machine. I wish the hard drive was a little bigger but it does the job. I recently ... read more

Pros: Inexpensive, mostly Windows2000 compatible, inexpensive, full feature set.
    Cons: Lack of polish.

Summary: I looked at used laptops extensively. I wanted a very simple machine that I could take on the road with me, that would run all modern software and be expandable to at least 128 MB of RAM. I found the odd Toshiba at $750 USD but they always came with ... read more

    Aug 31 '01
    Pros: Excellent weight and layout
Cons: Screen is a bit dark

Summary: I have always been a fan of eMachines for a few reasons. Above all, they use high-quality parts and don't charge nearly as much as other name brand computer manufacturers. The 450k is the same way. It is an excellent little laptop for an inexpensive ... read more

    Pros: Price, speed, battery
    Cons: Built-in modem

Summary: The eSlate 450k is a great value for the $829 paid (Egghead). The HPA display is sufficiently bright for most work and the High Performance Array seems to prevent the lag associated with other Dual-Scan displays. The display does require an adjustment ... read more

    Pros: Price; appearance
Cons: Bad tech support; if it breaks you're dead
