Pros: Price and sound quality Cons: Quality overall
I used to work in a computer hardware store and have probably seen every type of speakers in existence. The Altec ACS22 were used as the default speakers in our economy systems. However, I wouldn't confuse economy with cheap. While the Altec ACS22 is...

Truly Pathetic Sounding
by leonbev ,Mar 24 '05
Pros: They're cheap, and they don't take up a lot of space. Cons: Cable clutter, horrible sound.
I got my ACS 22 Speakers free (with mail-in rebate) from Staples about two years ago. I pretty much got what I paid for.
The first thing that you'll notice when you take the speakers out of the box is that the all of the cables are already connected. Sure, that makes it easy to set up, but the cables are NOT detachable, which makes the speakers a pain to store or move around. You'll probably end up wanting to store them after hearing how bad they sound, anyway.
The speakers themselves sound lousy. I mean, we're talking $10 transistor radio bad here. Weak base, weak treble, and NO way to adjust either one through the speaker controls. The output is pretty weak as well, so the volume doesn't get very high.
In short, these speakers LOOK like a bargain, but there are plenty of better models out there. Spend an extra $10 for something with a subwoofer and bigger drivers... Your ears will thank you for it.
