| kiersten's Full Review: VAIO 505SuperSlim Series |
Sony's ultralight VAIO line is packed with features and software in an exceedingly slim package.
Advantages? The VAIO is less than an inch thick, and weighs a scant three pounds, with the battery attached. And compared to the other ultralights in it's class, the 505TR is packed with features and extras: a double-life battery that lasts twice as long as those included with the Sharp or the Toshiba, and a wealth of software that the others just don't include. Moreover, the 505TR is $300 to $500 cheaper than the comparable Sharp Actius 250 and the Toshiba Portege 3110.
The main disadvantage is the 505TR's screen. The resolution is set too high, making for tiny fonts; if you turn it down to 800 by 600, the fonts become nightmarishly jagged.
Of course, if you're considering an ultralight, be prepared for a small keyboard (the 505TR's is about 90% of normal), and an external floppy disk drive. And the CD-ROM drive runs about $200 extra.
Specs: 300 megaherz Intel MMX processor, 64 megabytes of RAM, built-in 56K modem, and more. All in all, the 505TR is a great machine.
