Pros: Competitive pricing, responsive customer service, easy-to-use interface Cons: No provision for looking up owner info for domain names already registered
Summary: Recently, I decided to stake out a piece of e- real estate by securing my very own dot com address. Vain? Perhaps. Practical? Eventually...I hope so.
As a newbie, I know quite little about the ins and outs of how to set up a website. ... read more

Pros: Inexpensive. If you do talk to someone there, they are more friendly than sullen. Cons: No phone number, unpredictable response from customer service, defective links sent to complete registration
Summary: All I wanted to do was renew a couple of domains, and I was looking for an alternative to the widely hated Network Solutions. After finding Verio to be a scam (check complaints with the BBB), I turned to Dotster. I registered a domain with them last ... read more

Pros: Many online features, easy-to-use interface. Cons: No customer response, long delays (up to "never") in establishing certain features.
Summary: I registered my first domain with Dotster a couple of years ago. Last year, I asked to establish an email account, to be used for "hiding" my ISP userid. I just wanted to be able to change providers without having to notify my two hundred regular ... read more

Pros: Company does respond to requests for support. Cons: Some instructions on their website are unclear.
Summary: Among companies catering to the small operators Dotster seems to be better than most. I have been able to contact them by phone and email, and their response is generally fast (within a day or two) and always polite. I have never experienced downtime. ... read more

Pros: Good prices and easy domain registration, renewal, and updates Cons: Nothing of enough consequence to qualify as a true "con"
Summary: Update 11/5/01: I'm leaving this review intact but it's important to note that Dotster does now offer renewal of .tv domains, which they did not when the review was written. They also offer registration of the new .info domain. I recently ... read more

Pros: Easy to use interface Cons: No one seems to work there anymore
Summary: It's always sad to see a good company go bad. It should have come as no surprise that Dotster was in for a downward turn when they took all reference to their phone number off their site, but who could have guessed it would be this bad.
