Opera 5 - Quirky, Fast, & Finally Free, But At A Cost

by awoolcott Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Dec 18 '00
Pros: Fast page rendering, easy on resources, innovative built-in features,auto-refresh to maintain connection, stable
Cons: Terrible cookie management, not so great cache management, zero plug-in support, ad banner for free version
To most Internet users, there are only two web browsers that are in the mainstream - Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator/Communicator. But for a while now there has been a third browser that has broken past the "Alternative"...

Opera Web Browser--Try It to Speed Things Up

by GlendaG Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 10 '01
Pros: Speedy--especially speeds up a dial-up service
Cons: Still has a few quirks
At first I used Opera only to speed up things up when surfing was especially slow.

Why didn't I use it all the time? Because of those all too frequent occasions when it made me want to throw my mouse through my monitor.

Why am I...

Opera 7 - give it a week and you'll never go back

by search66 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Feb 03 '03
Pros: fast. customize. not IE.
Cons: Quirky email. Not compliant with some sites.
The Internet has truly become a large part of everyone’s life the last few years. I remember way back in the early 90’s that “surfing” the world wide web was actually limited to under 100 web pages. And “browsing” was limited to...

Opera--A Browser with Class

by happy2000usa Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 11 '04
Pros: Extremely well designed, minimum resource use. FAST!
Cons: Not compatible with some web pages, MS Java Scripts, and custom toolbars
I've Been Singing For Years I used to be a Netscape user. Netscape peaked, in my mind, at version 4.7. The newer versions were more advertiser friendly than good to users. This forced a switch back to my dreaded nemesis, Internet Explorer. That ...

Opera: The Little Browser With The Big Punch!

by rpllingrock Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Apr 27 '01
Pros: Quick, Free, and Small.
Cons: Cookie handling sometimes erratic along with page reloads
Although I don’t feel that Opera will ever replace Internet Explorer or Netscape (maybe), it does have some features not available (yet) in other browsers.

Download/Installation

My browser since version 5.0

by shrodi , Jun 10 '02
Pros: Light & swift. The zooming tool is fantastic.
Cons: Can present layout problems with some Web pages.
I saw that the more recent reviews of Opera were dating back to the version 5, so I thought I could give some new insights about it.

I have exactly 10 browsers/versions installed on my home computer (Netscape 1.1, 3.01, 4.7, 6.2 and 7PR1; MSIE...

Opera 5: The best browser I've used!

by Slusy Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Dec 07 '00
Pros: Small, fast, lots of options, FREE!
Cons: minor bugs, ad banner in free version
I used to be a rabid proponent of Netscape. It used to be the best thing since sliced bread, as far as I was concerned. Lately, however, there have been security holes, it's really, really slow and bloated, and it crashes more often than Wile E. Coyote...

Opera 5: Cannot sing but can surf

by ozgamer , Jan 03 '01
Pros: Smaller download and install than other browsers; fast web browsing; easy to use
Cons: Must pay to register ad-free version
Your internet connection depends on many factors but I've never really thought about how much the browser contributes to the speed at which a web page loads up. At least not until recently. The speed of your browser can make a huge difference to the...

Savior of the "Forsaken"?

by Guildencrantz Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Oct 26 '00
Pros: We have JavaScript support now, which makes Opera a nearly a complete web browser (all it needs is Java)
Cons: We need Java support (but, that's coming)
There are quite a quite a few members of the BeOS (Be Operating System by Be, Inc.) community who feel they have been forsaken be Be. Why? Because Be has decided to focus on another product, BeIA, and in doing so has halted production on Net+, the BeOS...

That "Other" Browser

by p2tpeoples , Sep 19 '02
Pros: Works on almost any operating system, nice interface, skinable, compatible
Cons: Costs $30 for the ad-free version, not 100% compatible
I was introduced to Opera by a friend and intrigued by its compatibility. It works with almost every operating system out there, is small, and is easy to use. I use it on Windows, the registered version and love it. I like the window-in-window mode, I...

Fast and simple

by herrcool , Mar 29 '01
Pros: Fast, now free (with banner ads)
Cons: Poor plugin and java support, some pages render badly, no longer fits on a floppy.
I have been using Opera in its various versions over the last few years off and on and have been impressed. Its fast page rendering is very good.

You may have noticed I said 'off and on'. That is because I use Opera for a time, but I always go...

Not just another browser.

by beerbrain , Oct 27 '01
Pros: Small yet functional beyond imagination.
Cons: Unconventional interface, unreliable download manager.
If you are tired of the usual bloated browsers that take forever to load & take even longer than that to display a single web page then it's about time you consider shifting to Opera.

How big is Opera?
The whole of Opera without...

The speed of the narrow approach.

by the.knight , Nov 27 '99
Pros: It opens the half a page it can understand very very fast
Cons: Poorly supported script methods, no Java support included, and you have to pay for this one!
Opera is a browser that is indeed fast. Faster than MS IE 5. If you want to browse text quickly then this is the program for you. If you want to properly experience the World Wide Web however you are in for some disappointment.

Opera gets...

by lap0530 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Apr 07 '00

Cons: Still in Beta, Some Problems
Opera--An Alternative Web Browser

This is a review of Opera's 32-bit version 4.0 Beta 2 for Win 98/2000/NT. I had tried previously and dismissed the earlier versions of Opera primarily because of the very strange rendering of web pages....

Opera Sings Different Tune

by themr2man , May 19 '01
Pros: FREE, small file size, functional, plenty of options
Cons: Email difficult to integrate
Opera is an alternative browser to using internet explorer or netscape. For those of you who want a great browser (one of which I'm writing this opinion while using) take a look at Opera. This browser offers many choices and is smaller than most...
