I recently signed up with Copper.net because I'm on a tight budget in my college apartment. I've had the service for about a month and thus far it is working fine. Copper.net has better connections the most of the "cheapies" and no advertising banners. It was easy to set-up (I like the connector file you download when you set up a new account). The have plenty of access numbers in my area - Western New York. Connections are OK and speeds are typical for dial-up. I'm not using the accelerator version. Especially for the introductory period (3 months for $1) its worth a try.

Copper.net Rocks at only $99 per year (that's $8.25 a month). These prices have not changed since 1997, and now six years later in 2003 it's still $99 per year!!! They also have Hi-Speed now for $149 per year. Check 'em out at www.trycopper.net

Cons: The worst customer support I've ever experienced.

Their email support is absolutely terrible. They typically ignore emails--just flat out ignore them (they even tell you they will ignore them if in their opinion your email doesn't fit certain specifications.) If you want any sort of support from this company you have to call them on the telephone, and good luck getting through!

Within 5 days of signing up with them my account just stopped working. After numerous tries I finally got a response--and they told me I had gone over the 200 hour limit! When I explained to them that was a mathmatical impossibility (even had I been online 24/7 for 5 days that would not make 200 hours) they just went back to ignoring my emails.

I noticed there are a lot of positive reviews for them... the only thing I can think is that they are using shills to post positive reviews. I'd be willing to bet that most (if not all) the positive reviews listed on this site are from Copper.net employees.

Avoid this company at all costs.

I've been on the internet since 1995 and have used a number of ISPs....from dialup to broadband.

I've been on coppernet now for about 45 days and have had few problems.

I lost a connection one day and had to call their customer service to get a new dialup number, and got a quick response.

On a scale of 1-10 I'd give Copper.net a 7+....solid service and certainly you get what you pay for.

At 9.95 its a deal you can't beat

I switched to Copper.net about a week ago. The setup was easy and fast. The price is good even with the Copper Hi Speed added on. I didn't realize how bad my old ISP was until I started using Copper.net. Had to use their support one time and got a quick responce and problem was on my end. But they told me how to fix it and that was that.

The E-mail works good, no frills but it gets the job done.You can Fwd. messages with attachments. You can add sub. folders to save messages to. Address book has an area for groups. You can put detailed information in the address book.

The HiSpeed does help for me, the phone lines(Verizon)to my house are real bad and a good connection for me is 28.8kps,so the accelator is a help.The Copper.net home page loads much faster than my old ISP
The web page is ok. It has the major news items and soprts events.
On the overall this is a real good ISP. I guess that it is not to well known yet. If it grows I hope it stays as well run as it is today
