Pros: very stable, quick help turnaround, plenty of help resources Cons: difficult install, much self configuration needed, sometimes a little out of date
Summary: What is Debian?

Pros: Extremely stable, superior and unique package management. non-commercial. low hardware requirements Cons: Not updated as frequently as other distros. Has *dated* software.
Summary: I've been running Debian 'potato' (2.2) for about six months. My first successful experience with Linux was RedHat 6.2, but its bugginess drove me away... so i checked out the most stable distro i could find: Debian.
Debian has endeared me for many ... read more

Pros: reliable, not Windows, cool features Cons: a bit tricky to learn at first, lack of software available
Summary: Let's face it. I'm not your typical Linux user. I am not a computer programmer born with a silver laptop in hand; I am not one who constantly needs to be on the cutting edge of technology; and I don't really have much against Bill Gates (though I think ... read more

Pros: Fairly *easy* to install, very easy to maintain, fast and stable Cons: Out of date stable version
Summary: Well, out of the few distributions I've used including Red Hat and Mandrake, Debian may not be the easiest, but it's definitely the best! I grabbed a copy of their latest, but outdated, stable edition on CD from cheapbytes.com for 11 bucks... You can ... read more

Pros: Stable, flexible, best package system in the world Cons: Slow to evolve (the stable tree, at least), NOT a beginner's distro unless the beginner is very patient and has supportive friends/family members.
Summary: Debian. What can I say? As a Linux user who has been around many different distributions over the years, it's hard to articulate the good feeling I get when I set up a desktop system with Debian GNU/Linux. There are a lot of people out there making ... read more

Pros: secure, solid, stable Cons: more GNU needed
Summary: If you thought a distribution of linux was a distribution of linux you were right if you were an advanced user that was planning on customizing every part of the file system and securing the system by hand. Debian on the other hand has taken into ... read more

Pros: package manager is the best Cons: not friendly for first timers
Summary: My first linux distro was Mandrake, which many kept saying was the very best for linux new comers. I liked linux, but I hated Mandrakes Redhat Package Manager, which couldn't manage it's way out of a paper bag without serious dependency issues. After ... read more

Pros: Amazing stability, and speed, for any purpose. Cons: Not user friendly, by any means of the term. No integrated, or unique features.
Summary: Unmatched, in it's UNIX roots....
Debian/GNU Linux, was one of the first, quasi-commercial Linux distrubutions, available on the commercial market. Debian Linux set some of the first standards for a production Linux distro, outside of ... read more

Pros: Stable, Versatile, Secure, Free Cons: User needs some technical ability
Summary: With all the Linux hype in general these days and all the popularity it's been receiving, the most average people ask, what makes it so great?
When people think of Linux, the first thing that comes to mind probably is RedHat. As good ... read more

Pros: Robust, well supported, good for power users, and maybe for production environments. Cons: Difficult installation, maybe not for casual end users, but try anyways!
Summary: For the record, my opinion of this distribution is currently based largely on the impression of the organization as communicated via their website (http://www.debian.org/), and not by usage.
That said, I have nothing to say but words of praise ... read more

Pros: Debian is a stable, cutting edge, quality Linux distribution. Cons: The CD releases are spread too far apart, so a high bandwidth connection to the 'net is very important.
Summary: I first used Debian in 1997, when the main server was hosted near my home. Since then, I've used Redhat, Turbo Linux, Slackware, SuSe, and even a handful of BSDs .. and none have impressed me as much as Debian.
I'm a technical user -- I've ... read more

Pros: Very stable, good installation scripting and menu systems Cons: It's unix, so it scares people
Summary: Distributed with a few flavors in mind, debian linux is a great operating system. I've installed and used it as a desktop computer for the last month or so and will provide the following observations:

Pros: Package System, decently easy installation Cons: Package System, very slow evolution
Summary: With the explosion of Linux distributions coming out these days, it can be pretty tough for a distribution to find a niche that will accept it. The big company distros are trying to grab up this weird new marketshare pretty fast. Debian doesn’t fit into ... read more

Pros: Great stuff. Cons: None
Summary: All I can say is: WOW. I have been using this distrubution of linux for the past 8 months, and all I can say is great things about it. I have never come across any problems with Debian. It's extremely easy to use, if you're used to command line prompts. ... read more

Pros: Configuration and management tools. Self healing package installer. Cons: Docs could be more user friendly.
Summary: I started with Linux back with Slackware 1.0.
I have also used Redhat 5 & 6, but Debian is definitely the most elegant. The custom boot scripts and debian utilities are superb. The Debian package manager also kicks ass.
