Pros: Kudzu Cons: Many Bugs, wont install on some comps
You any Linux people out there, and for anyone just getting into Linux, stick with Red Hat 6.0. I have used both Versions (6.0 & 6.1), and 6.1 just has so many bugs in it. One computer I installed 6.1 on the Perl modules did not work. All of the...

Pros: Easy to install, good for first time users. Cons: Very controlled distribution, and customization can be difficult.
My distribution of choice is Debian, but I'm a pretty technical guy. For anyone who wants an introduction to Linux, I recommend Redhat. It's stable, it's functional, and it has great tech support.
Unfortunately, it's rather hard to stay on...

Pros: An alternative to the mainstream Cons: Not quite the "no-brainer" that microsoft is.
I only installed Linux once to see if I could do it. The one thing I noted was that the monitor, that I had been considering getting rid of due to a lack of horizontal width adjustability and a resulting narrow picture, performed flawlessly when being...

Pros: slimfast OS Cons: still a bit tricky to install
I usually leave the New York Times for my lunchtime reading, but today's (7/08) headline got my attention the minute it reached my doorstep:
"Fearing Control by Microsoft, China Backs the Linux System"
Say what?! ...

Pros: Cost, features, reliability Cons: High learning curve, low hardware support
Unfortunately I have to work for a living. And most of the stuff that I have to do can be done in Windows. Still time from time I am checking out the new arrivals.
Everything that I am about to say was said before. But not here.
If...

Pros: ease of installation Cons: limited software
When I first started using Linux it was a really hard to install, limited piece of junk. But when I recently downloaded RedHat 6.2 I was very impressed as to how easy it was to install and to use. I told my install to load the GUI, graphical user...

Pros: Cost, features, avaiblity Cons: Difficult to use, not all apps avaible for it
Redhat Linux 6.1 is brilliant, and actually has reached the point where to should be at least considered as a primary operating system. Not nessicarly the right choice for everyone, it has come a long way from it's archaic roots, and Redhat managed to...

Pros: Maybe a better Linux Version Cons: The PC Operating System industry is still controlled by Microsoft
First of all, I like the UNIX/LINUX operating system more than any Microsoft operating system.
When the talk that Linux might be the operating system that can make Bill Gates nervous, I think that can never be a fact. Assuming Linux does...

Pros: Easy to Install if you have common hardware components. Has lots of Extras. No need to buy an Office Suite. Can install on existing systems without the need to wipe out the drives. Cons: If you have proprietary hardware like an IBM PS/2, the installation is almost impossible to finish. Although there is a PS/2 newsgroup with members that can assist someone with a Linux-PS/2 problem. If you have proprietary anything, avoid this variation of
Linux has a lot of variations and what I looked at here is a variation of a variation. It is the red-hat variation of Linux but it is the Mandrake Variation of Red-Hat Linux. Checking the documentation in the box, it said that it was manufactured by...

Pros: Easy to manage and configure, many 3rd party tools, robust Cons: Needs the third party tools, any little mistake can be hard to trace
Currently we helped a client install Red Hat 6.1! This product was very easy to setup as a web server and Fire Wall. As the client needed to learn how to administer Red Hat, we let him do most of the work offering guidance and helping him cleanup...

Pros: easy to install,a lot of freewares and tutorials Cons: technical support is slow
Red Hat 6.1 offers a lot for the money. If you are a starter with a limited budget, this is the product for you. The installation for 6.1 has been drastically improved from the previous versions. In addition to that, the professional version of 6.1...

Pros: high performance Cons: no direct Chinese support
RetHat 6.1 is my first choice to use as a website platform. As there are some other Chinese Linux OS, such as TurboLinux, in China, I consider RedHat is better than that. Its installation is very easy and highly configurable. It's very good if you...
