Pros: simple, free, don't need to download it Cons: too basic.
Summary: Well, much as I hate to say anything nice about Micro$oft, This is quite a nice little package, for free. The problem with reviewing it is that it does nothing special. There are thousands of text editors out there - EditPad, NoteTab, Ultra Edit, Vim, ... read more

Pros: Does what it's supposed to do. Oh, and a time-date stamp. Woo. Cons: No customization, line counting, or anything else useful.
Summary: Notepad just isn't that great. Sure, you can use it when you have to jot out a little note or whatever, and I suppose it can be used all right to edit HTML or some other non-macro-intensive language. But it definitely has some major disadvantages in the ... read more

Pros: simple, free, present in all versions of Windows, extremely fast Cons: limited to editing small text files, but that's all it's really designed for anyway
