Pros: Free, easy to use and install, works like a champ Cons: none
I have always been the happy-go-lucky sort: you know the type; I'll deal with the crisis when it arises. Firewalls seemed to me to be just one more thing to clog up, slow down, and potentially wreck my already flaky system.
If you have read my recent epinion of PacBell DSL, you’ll note that I have recently joined the broadband ranks. What you may not have noted was that on the day I finally achieved hyperspeed, there were several articles on the internet about the increased...

Pros: Best bang for your firewall buck. Cons: Windows XP problems, daunting for newbies.
Update Jan 13 2002: although Zone Alarm is designed to work with Windows XP, there are some lingering issues that have to fixed until I'd recommend it to an XP user. It tends to forget your app settings, and it will sometimes randomly lock you out of...

One of the internet’s downsides is that not only does it become easy for you to use your computer to access data across the world, it also becomes easy for other computers to reach yours. If you run Windows, unfortunately, you probably are not well...
I am becoming tired of those who claim that, by running a firewall, their computers are unhackable. This is one serious misconception that must be cleared. While Zone Alarm is a decent firewall, it too is vulnerable to attacks against a system. However,...
Pros: Good protection for FREE Cons: May occasionally conflict with programs you are running.
Why go "one on one" with potential hackers when you can us a "zone defense?" I first heard about Zone Alarm while watching ZDTV and it was highly recommended. Since I have a cable modem and was feeling a wee bit vulnerable, I...
Pros: Free for personal use, solid protection from intruders, runs "silently" Cons: Compared to all the other protective programs, there are NONE

Pros: Free program that provides top-quality protection Cons: Doesn't play well with McAffee Virus Scan
Why is Zone Alarm is a great product? Because the manufacturer charges what it's worth. 99.999% of the consumers on the Internet have absolutely no need for a firewall-- Zone Labs doesn't charge a nickel if you use their product for personal use. You do...

Pros: Great outgoing traffic analyzer for your computer Cons: Not a full security measure

Pros: Effective sofware firewall, easy to use, freeware you shouldn't be without Cons: None; if you object to a learning curve in PC security issues, that's a personal problem
Many people with dial-in connections think that they don't have any real use for a firewall. After all, most public discussion of this issue is based on the type of always-on connection that's part of the cable modem world and that's certainly not...
Pros: Free version provides basic firewall protection - pro includes reporting Cons: 12 months later and this thing still crashes Windows 2000
When I first discovered ZoneAlarm I really liked it. With basic firewall protection and extremely easy setup/use, it seemed like a great "personal firewall" for the average home or small business Internet user. And it is still such, but with one major...

Pros: Protects your PC, free to download Cons: None
After a friend told me about Zone Alarm Firewall, I thought I would download it for myself.
Zone Alarm Firewall is software that protects your PC against anyone hacking in to it. It is like a virus scan in a way. You can use both a virus scan...
Pros: Basic firewall is excellent. Cons: ZoneAlarmPro 3.0 update is so buggy it creates more problems than it solves.
I used the free version of Zone Alarm 2.6 for a long time and was very happy with it. Then I decided to buy it (Zone Alarm Pro) and then upgraded to their new version 3.0. BIG MISTAKE!
Their support is almost non-existent and extremely...
Pros: ZAP 2.6.xxx is the way to go Cons: Stay away from v3.0.xxx
I purchased ZAP 2.6 as a bundle after using the free version. I just wanted more protection. This firewall works like a champ. Oh, the problems it will cause hackers! Configuration and permissions can be confusing to the novice, but overall it is a...
Pros: Stops inbound AND unwanted outbound traffic, good ad blocking. Cons: TERRIBLE SUPPORT. Not for a newbie or the faint of heart.
This review is of Zone Alarm Pro version 3.1.395 (original post from 10/02).
I recently switched from Black Ice to Zone Alarm because of the ability to monitor/block outbound traffic and the ad/pop-up blocking it offers. It does take some...
Pros: Thwarts intruders, protects your valuable stuff and best of all, it's FREE! Cons: A bit hard to figure out the operation at first
This is one powerful little gadget! I heard about Zone Alarm here on epinions and I have to say, now that it's installed, I feel much better about Peeping Toms lurking out there. As some of you probably know, I will try just about anything if it's...
Pros: Is an effective fire wall. Cons: Alerts tend to nag.
*WHAT IS A FIRE WALL?*
An example of a fire wall would be in houses, it's there to prevent a fire from spreading in to the neighboring house. In a computer the fire wall accomplishes the same thing, it blocks hackers...viruses Ext. from entering...
Pros: V 3.1 Interface is a lot cleaner
Installs and auto-detects networks and VPN's nicely Cons: I had to uninstall mine...too many freezes and crashes.
I used 2.6 for ages with no problems...until despite the warnings of others here I (imagining some kind of papal dispensation that made me immune to these problems) I went ahead and paid for Ver 3.1 Pro.
Zone alarm is a rather good firewall, but it doesn't come to you without some glitches. First off, it's not always 100% reliable, as most firewalls aren't. It is a free program for home use, but does it really work all the time? According to my...
Pros: easy to use; protects against some hacks; free for home, or non-profit organisations Cons: very easy to get past (hacker-friendly)
This product is good, but doesn't get the job done. Sure it helps to control some forms of hacking that could damage your computer, but does it stop all hackers? The answer is NO!
The truth is, this firewall isn't that good. If it was that...
Pros: Ease of setup and use Cons: Lack of detailed instructions / explanations of different features/graphics
For anyone using the internet, especially "always on" services (i.e. @Home(TM), ADSL, etc) this program is a must. It's free for personal home use and very easy to download, setup and use. Whenever a program attempts to access the internet, a pop-up...

Pros: It's free. Easy to use, when it works Cons: Doesn't like my pc, crashes my browser.
I recently got DSL and I am waiting for my ISP to send me the firewall protection it promised. On ZDNet I came across a glowing review of ZoneAlarm and the price is right --- free!

Pros: Everything! Cons: Ugly and cartoon like interface.
I've been using Zone Alarm since day one when it first came out. I was using Atgaurd (which now has a new name and is now the Network Associates, I think, brand of firewall) previous to checking out Zone Alarm... and how does that compare? Well, Zone...
Zone Alarm is THE personal firewall for at-home broadband connections. Here's why:

Pros: a good firewall, stops many hackers Cons: runs in system tray and the pop-up and start-up

Pros: Fast Response, Warns on everything Cons: Tracking everything can be painful
If logging and checking every last thing your system does interests you, then you'll love ZoneAlarm. It checks and queries just about everything. This is admirable, as very little can get past it.
Pros: stealth presence, easy to configure, ability to "remember" Cons: not a one!
I had purchased a firewall when I went to a cable modem. The firewall was ok, but I noted ALOT of attempts to ping/hack/crack whatever word you want to use. I did some research and learned of the Shields Up site (by the creator of this firewall) and...
Pros: It's free and protects you Cons: Sometime it over protects
Zone Alarm
Zone Alarm is an amazing, free and very yellow piece of software. While it’s not a virus killer in the true sense of the word (It doesn’t remove any viruses from your system) it can prevent some of the nastier ones from being a...
I have been using cable modem for more than 3 years. I never had anyone hacked into my computer (at least that was what I thought). One reason is that I only use the computer about an hour a day and it was off rest of the time. About a year ago, I...

This product is a must for anyone on a network (an internet connection that is always on, not a dial-up) due to security reasons. You cannot protect against everything and everyone, but this product...
ILOVEYOU. BackOrifice. Melissa. Port scanners. Script kiddies. These words/phrases are all entering a basic computer-user's vocabulary. People are more paranoid than ever about what web sites they visit, and who they give their e-mail address to. They...
Pros: NOT a resource HOG. Continually having ports scanned- NO BREECHES! Cons: Haven't found any.
Being of the new Broadband Age, naturally security became an issue. Though I don't feel my personal PC has any super confidential information that would be the downfall of the free world, I do have your normal personal information that I would like to...
Pros: Keeps people out of your computer. Cons: You might have play around with it a bit when it comes to voice chat, but I'm sure if you configure it for medium security you won't have a problem.
I was running Black ice, and that program was ok, but after trying zone alarm, I'm pretty impressed with how it works, I have been on different voice chat servers and it had stopped a few dead in their tracks, if you wish to configure pal talk, it will...
Pros: Very strong protection for your PC Cons: None so far
I was surprised to find a free personal firewall that is as strong, if not stronger than commercial (paid) software out on the market. Zone Alarm was simple to configure and allows the best flexibility for the needed protection you're looking for. You...

The company I work for is an internet access point for 40 Texas school districts, each with their own network, that are all using T-1s and are behind a PIX firewall. In early May our main Windows 2000 & NT servers and Windows 2000 workstations started...
Pros: This thing is amazing! Blocks out perpetrators Cons: Should include the PRO version features! :)
First off, let me say that people who give this software a negative review are people who usually have technical problems (crashes, stalls, blue screen, etc.). On the bright side, if you get this thing working fine with no technical problem, it's worth...
Pros: Keeps your computer safe from Hackers - period! Cons: Can be a little annoying until you tweak the settings.
It really does! It does not allow any programs in or out through your internet connection unless YOU let it! You can individually turn programs on or off, allow them access this one time or every time. It does not allow "pings" to be sent to your...
Pros: Easy to use, alerts are much more informative in newer versions Cons: NONE WHATSOEVER!
New Version has SQUASHED bug with adding new applications to list!
With P2P filesharing on the rise, this piece of software is a MUST! Especially so, if you're on a high speed connection.
Depending on your settings, this software will basically lock down your computer so that you know EVERY piece of software...
Pros: Blocks and lists hack attempts and pings Cons: ping lists can become annoying
Living at college has left my computer very vulnerable to hackers on the campus network. Not only am I on the internet with a very fast connection, but I also leave my computer on for long lengths of time.
Pros: Free, works better than any other one. Cons: NONE!
ZoneAlarm is the best firewall ever made. One day, I was surfing the internet. Next thing I know, my printer is printing out sheets of paper with globs of ink on them, and my wall paper has changed.
Pros: Free and offers some protection Cons: Difficult to understand configuration
Zone Alarm can be downloaded free for personal use and as an internet security software it is O.K. but not perfect. Real professional hackers can get past this firewall, so I would recommend supplementing Zone Alarm with another security utility such...

Keeps crashing my machine by krakatoavin ,Jun 30 '04
Pros: Easy to use, easy to configure, friendly interface. Cons: Very unstable, keeps crashing our machines, not recommended
Oh man, where do I start? When I was on zone alarm 3 on my old WinNT and 2K machines, they were stable and reliable. When ZA started pushing the later versions, specially the 5.x releases (if you can call them that), we have had nothing but crashes and freezes on every single machine we have installed zone alarm on, including the latest XP boxes. I can't understand how such a product could have really been shipped as a "release". I've had to reinstall (from scratch) three systems because we've had to physically pull the plug after the system simply locked up. Once zone alarm was uninstalled, there were no more crashes.
Pros: Supposedly is a good program Cons: Takes up all your resources and locks up system very often.
I have had this software for a year now and HATE IT. It bogs down my system and locks it up for no apparent reason. They have no tech support unless you want to pay for it and frankly , I will just get rid of this horrid program once it expires.
