AT&T service is flexible and rates are good

  • User Rating: Very Good
  • Local Coverage:
  • Plan Flexibility:
  • Customer Service:
Pros:reasonable price, customer service is helpful, good website to manage account
Cons:phones are mediocre, billing errors, occasional poor signal/dropped calls
The Bottom Line: I think that AT&T is the best choice of wireless providers in the Seattle area. They have good service and customer support and reasonable calling plans.

Nokia 1260
This phone is good for basic functions and very user friendly, if you want newer features it is not a good choice. It has many ring tones, games, voice dialing and most importantly it allows sending and receiving of text, picture, and email messages. It doesn't have some of the newer features such as color display, assigned ring, wireless web service, etc...

Billing
The bills are easy to read, detailed and straight-forward. They are no more or less comprehensive than other provider's bills that I have had in the past (Nextel, Sprint).

Range and Clarity
I do have an occasional poor signal or dropped call (sometimes when driving outside of the city or when inside a large building), but this has not been enough of an issue to even get me slightly frustrated with the service.

AT&T Website
There are a few features about AT&Ts website that I really like. First and foremost is the option to see the minutes you have used for the current billing cycle organized into peak and off-peak minutes so you can avoid going over those included in your plan (why don't they put this function on the phones!?). At $.45 a minute, this is particularly important to avoid. The other great function of the website, which allows for flexibility in your calling plan, is the option to switch back and forth between plans. For example, if you are only halfway between billing cycles but you have already used up most of your allotted minutes, you have the option to switch your plan to one that includes more minutes (say from the $29.99 plan for 250 anytime minutes to the $39.99 plan for 500 anytime minutes). This way you are only paying $10 more that month and not an outrageous fee for minutes used over your allotted time. Also, if you do not have nationwide coverage (meaning that you can call anywhere FROM anywhere) and you are planning to travel, you can log into your account and switch to the nationwide plan for the time that you will be out of town (and pay the additional cost for that time period) therefore avoiding roaming fees.

Problems I experienced
1. The first bill that I received had additional charges for long distance, and my plan was to include free long distance. AT&T customer service was able to fix this error.
2. They failed to tell me at Best Buy (and I failed to ask) when my billing cycle began. Because I didn't know this information I went over on my minutes for the first cycle.
3. The rebate on the cost of the phone is not an instant rebate and must be mailed in. About 6 weeks after mailing mine in, I received a letter saying I didn't qualify for the rebate because the offer ended on March 1. I purchased my phone on March 1, so I did qualify. Again, I called customer service and they were able to help me, but not in a timely manner. They were unable to send me my rebate since the promotion had expired so they credited my account the $50. I didn't mind because it is the same difference to me, but I can see why some people may have been unhappy about this.
