The Bottom Line Pickups are really good for people who need them, but they aren't for everyone!
When I went looking for a vehicle to replace my wrecked Hyundai Santa Fe, a pick up truck seemed to be a very shiny alternative. I notice a lot of people today asking themselves, "Why Did I buy this thing?" I could go on for days but I will keep to the category and give what my priorities were, and the results of my search. 1) Did I really need a pickup? When I went shopping, I noticed there were really only 4 major full sized pickups, Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet, and Toyota. There were many more small pickups from the same brands. But most are slightly redeigns of 1 basic pickup. For example, a chavy s-10 is the same as an Isuzu Hombre is the same as a Gmc Sonoma, or a Ford Ranger is the same as a Mazda B-series. Mind you there are many different kinds of configurations ranging from bed styles to cab sizes. Only 19 I figured I should go extended cab for the simple fact that children may be on the way and the trck will still be present. Almost all of the manufacurers had 4 full sized doors, but a serious lack of rear space were comparable to a small car. Small pickups commonly had "suicide doors" which open opposite to the normal doors and rear space was also smaller. My second point A question I asked myself was "Am I going to use the bed, or 4x4? Am I going to tow anything?" The answer was no. Realisticly, A pickup for me would be nothing more then a show truck. If you have the need, like you own a camper or a boat, or are an avid gardener or have a dirt bike, etc, you may need a truck. "But think about it! If you ever have the need you don't have to worry!" My freinds tell me this. If do get something I need a truck for, I will either buy a truck, or not get the thing that requires a truck. 2) The hidden costs. Another things I realised is that trucks are bigger. In comparison to mid-sized cars, The will suck more gas, they will cost more for tune ups and maintnance. Non financial costs are really apparent if you live in the city. Ever have to walk a half a mile because your truck wouldn't fit in the parking spaces closer to the mall? Mind you, I can buy half that store and fit it in the bed of the truck! I see alot of peoply who have rushed out in the past 10 years and bought a pickup and have lived only to wish they bought a mid sized car. Thier voices really ring through went they go to get gas. :) I hope this was helpful to anyone who's mind is clustered by thoughts of joining the bandwagon in the truck world. As for me, I think I will go and get another Santa Fe. |
