Pros: Great views, close to the airport, nice hotel.
Cons: Pool area can be loud in the evening, view of rental car
The Bottom Line: Don't get stuck with a crummy view, ask for a Golf Course view.

| merlot's Full Review: Wyndham Miami Airport |
I recently went on a cruise with my mother in law, a cruise she won through work. Part of the cruise included 1 night in Miami at the Wyndham Miami Airport hotel. This was all arranged through her employers travel department and we stayed in the hotel as part of a large group.
Location
The Wyndham Miami Airport is located a few minutes from Miami International Airport. The hotel offers shuttle service to and from the airport about every 15-20 minutes. When we arrived curbside at the airport a shuttle was just leaving. We waited about 5 minutes for another to arrive and there was one more just behind that one. We were at the hotel in less than 10 minutes.
Check in was very easy. We gave our names and were given a key to the room.
The hotel is located right along the Miami River and a golf course (I don't golf so I have no idea which one, it was nice though). We took a little walk along the River, there is a small section to walk, and were amused by the signs telling visitors to watch for alligators and poisonous snakes. I had hoped to see an alligator but we saw nothing!
The Hotel
When you enter the hotel you are in a fairly large lobby. There is a check in counter to the left and to the right is a small gift shop and the bar. There is another check in area that is used for special events straight ahead. That's where we checked in.
The lobby is very pretty with dark woods and soft lighting. The gift shop has some trinkets you can purchase for souvenirs, t-shirts, snacks, postcards, and travel items you may have left at home (shaving cream, toothpaste, etc). They also have books and magazines.
The bar is a very nice area with booths, tables, and bar stools. There are a couple of video games and 2 pool tables for your enjoyment. There is a separate street entrance to the bar as well. This entrance also serves as an outside entrance to the hotels restaurant.
The Tamarind Restaurant is located behind the bar in the right corner of the lobby. The Tamarind Restaurant overlooks the pool/Tiki Bar area of the hotel. You also have great views of the golf course from here.
The Wyndham Miami Airport has a pool right outside with quite a few lounge chairs for sunbathing. There is a Tiki Bar outside which serves drinks, live music is scheduled for the weekends. There are plenty of shady spots to sit and enjoy the music. The Tiki Bar is a bit expensive. I ordered a Diet Coke while sitting out by the pool. It was $2.50 and it wasn't even a whole can of soda, yes they just pop open a can and pour it over ice. Oh well, I was on vacation---no kids, no hubby, tropical location---whose to complain about a high priced soda?
The Rooms
We really lucked out with our room and I was surprised. Remember, this trip was totally free for us so I wasn't expecting much, I was just happy to be there.
We were on the 8th floor of the hotel so we took the elevator to our room. The key card was pretty sensitive but we finally managed to get in. The first thing I did was pull the curtains back to see what the view would be. I was pleasantly surprised. We had a fantastic view of the golf course, river, and pool. WOW! My daughter would have loved this room. She would have wheeled the desk chair over and parked herself in front of that window and watched the planes come in. Yes, every few minutes a plane would fly over the golf course headed for Miami International. Don't let that scare you off, it was actually fairly quiet. I thought I might have trouble sleeping listening to the jets come in, but it really wasn't loud at all.
We talked to some friends who were booked on the opposite side of the hotel. They had a view of the Hertz Rent A Car facility. Needless to say we were quite pleased with our view.
The rooms are decorated very nicely. The comforters were plaid (mauve, green, and beige), which was really nice. Some hotels have those ugly floral print linens that scream HOTEL, this was not the case here.
There was a TV, dresser, nightstand with alarm clock, desk with office chair, chair and ottoman, 2 Queen beds, iron and ironing board, coffee maker, and blow dryer standard in the room. The room was a standard size hotel room. There were ports for computer set up which we did not use.
Dining
As mentioned you may dine in the Tamarind Restaurant. However, since this was a work function we attended a buffet in one of the meeting rooms the hotel offers. This was a buffet dinner and was really not all that impressive.
There were 2 buffet tables set up but you really didn't know that until you got in to the room. We thought the meat carving station was between both buffet tables, many people waited after filling their plates with marinated vegetables, salad, rolls, pasta and chicken, to reach the meat station. What we found was actually a pasta bar. There were 2 chefs preparing pasta to order.
The pasta bar was quite tasty, but some were disappointed there wasn't any meat for dinner (other than the chicken dish). Once at the pasta bar you picked between penne or bow tie pasta, marinara or alfredo, and then there was shrimp or scallops available. The pasta was really quite good but I had already filled my plate with the pasta salad from the buffet table.
Room service is also available at your typical inflated room service prices.
Rates
Since I didn't pay for this room and we traveled as part of a large group I cannot comment on the rate we paid. However, while checking online I see that rooms run about $109. For the quality of this hotel, the convenience of it's location, and the spectacular views I would say that is a great price.
Final Thoughts
The location of the Wyndham Miami Airport is very convenient. It's close to the airport, about 20 minutes away from the Port Of Miami, close to Downtown, and South Beach. You can get to anywhere from here.
The hotel is very pretty and has some nice features. I would recommend this hotel if you are staying in the Miami area.
