| stumpy221's Full Review: 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer |
After my Honda Civic coupe was completely totaled, I was in need of a new car. I knew it had to be within my budget (College Student), after having a coupe I knew I needed a sedan, something with enough power to get me on and off the highway without worrying, and something that didn't eat too much gas. So I went around shopping.
Cars i was thinking about: Nissan Sentra Ser
Honda Civic Sedan
Hyundai Elantra
Mitsubishi Lancer
Well the first stop was to Nissan. After test driving the car I was sure that this is what i wanted to get, but never the less went to other dealerships to see what they offered.
Next I took a trip to Honda. My only reason for this is that I had virtually no problems with my past civic, and honda has a good reputation. However after sitting in the civic, I quickly realized that interior looked cheap and the interior space was next to nothing. It seemed more cramped than the coupe.
I actually liked the Elantra, except for some reason I wasn't comfortable using the rear view mirror in that car, so that was out.
Last I went to Mitsubishi. The front end caught my eye first, and then I followed the lines to the back. Looks amazing. Sat in it, Wow theres a lot of room for the front and back passengers. The Oz rally looks sharp. Interior trim was nice. Now the real fun begins. The sales rep handed me the keys and told me to drive her around. I wasn't expecting much for 120 hp but WOW. It did what i wanted it to do when I wanted it to. I turned left, without hesitation the car turned left, I turned right, the same results. Almost no body roll. The car stuck to the ground like glue. Best of all the price was way below the 18,000 dollar mark. I knew it, this was the car for me. so at 16,000 i drove off the lot with my new lancer.
I almost forgot the dealer also informed me that they were selling aftermarket parts for the OZ Rally that were covered under warranty.
Interior
Not bad at all. Brushed aluminum trim bordered the dash. Seats were comfortable and had a two toned leather option that i did not get. Gauges, white with soft red lighting. easy to adjust side view mirrors (electronic control). CD Player within reach. Comfortable in every part of the car. Lots of Leg room for Driver and passengers, front and back. A very quiet cabin.
Exterior
Pretty aggressive looking car. Headlights Resemble that of an IS 300. Chrome grill gives it a little elegance. Rear wing not too high, not too low, but definitely looks good on the car. The bodykit package of the OZ is definitely not cheaply made. The odds of it cracking is almost impossible. The 15" alloy wheels didn't look bad either. It is a really sporty look all together. My only gripe is that the bumper sticks out a little too far for my taste but doesn't look that bad.
Performance
you can definitely feel the power. Its pretty quick and handles like no other. Its a very responsive car. You step on the gas it goes, no lag. You hit a turn, no need to slow down to 30, you could do it at 45. Honestly I never had so much fun.
