| elpulpito's Full Review: Alltel Mobile Phone Service in Phoenix |
From the time I selected Alltel based at least in part on their advertised claim to be a top rated service in Arizona, I have experienced numerous problems with no help from Alltel's customer service.
Problem #1: Friends and family have frequently asked me, "Why didn't you call, I left you a message?" After checking my voicemail and finding no message, I assume my friends left their messages on somebody else's voicemail. Then, anywhere from a few days to a few months later the voicemails suddenly appear on my phone. Alltel's response when queried as to the problem? We don't have any record of a system problem. Sometimes this just happens. No offer of a credit on the bill or anything else to make up for it.
Problem #2: Every other cellular company in town offers free car cords, phone clips, etc. as incentives when signing up. Alltel? No. They may offer a free phone, but when asked to match any other offers, the answer is no.
Problem #3: Almost half of my calls do not connect on the first attempt, get dropped or have poor sound quality with numerous dropouts. Alltel seems to believe that this is normal for cell phone service, because they have never done anything to try to fix the problem. Has Alltel offered any additional minutes or credits for bad calls on my bill? Of course not.
Problem #4: I can be sitting stone-still in living room, and the signal-strength indicator fluctuates from "searching for service" to full signal randomly and for no apparent reason. Alltel's response? We don't have any reports of system problems or tower problems.
Problem #5: Last night I completed a 5 minute call to my house, and approximately an hour later my son said from another room that he could hear the conversation from my room on the phone he was using. I checked the last call time on my phone and found that I had been charged a 42 minute call. Alltel's response? It was probably your fault, you probably didn't terminate your call properly, you probably hit re-dial, etc. Would they credit me for this phantom phone call? No, they don't have any way to know what calls I have made for at least 48 hours. Could I lodge a complaint with a supervisor? No. I could write a letter to Little Rock to complain.
Bottom line, I would not recommend Alltel to anybody who wants a cell phone for anything more than a fashion accessory.
