Pros:Light, no electricity needed!
Cons:Too light, skipped across my carpet
The Bottom Line: Might be a good sweeper for extremely low pile carpet and wood floors. Would not recommend to anyone with more than one animal. Not worth the high price.

I bought the Bissell Sweeper a couple of months ago, as a quick and easy alternative in between hauling out the vacuum. My mom had a very old one when I was growing up, and it worked great. I wavered back and forth on my decision whether or not to buy it, and finally gave in. I really thought that $30 was too much to spend on the little sweeper, but figured that it would be worth it if it was as good as the one we had years ago. Was it worth?

I am writing about the specifics from memory, because I took it back about a week after purchasing it.

What It Is

It’s a sweeper that works on all different floor types, but it is not recommend for high pile carpet. It doesn’t require electricity, therefore it is quiet to operate, which is one reason I bought it. It’s very lightweight, which is the main reason I returned it!

*Two rotating (when pushing the sweeper of course) brushes. They can be removed easily for cleaning.

*”Dual Dirt Tray”. Easily emptied by pulling up on each side.

*Long handle. The handle comes in a few pieces and screws together easily and then attaches to the Bissell Sweeper. This is the only assembly required.

*Side brushes. These are small bristles on the front edges of the Bissell Sweeper. They did collect a lot of lint from the carpet.

*A little cleaning brush is included, which cleans the rotating brushes and the side brushes. It is very small, but does do a good job. (I used it before returning it to the store, and it looked like new when I finished.)
How Does It Work?

I have a dog, 2 cats and a 19 month old, so I really put it to the test. It didn’t pass.

The carpet test: I have medium pile carpet and had a very difficult time pushing the Bissell Sweeper across the floor. It is so lightweight that it “skips” along the floor. It didn’t do this all the time, but just about 75%, which is way too much! I did the dog test, where I had my dog roll on the floor (she leaves a good amount of hair behind), and tried sweeping it up. After about 3 or 4 passes, the hair would come up.

The Linoleum test: This is the main area of the house that I wanted the Bissell Sweeper for. It collects dog hair and of course “baby crumbs” all day long. It did a fairly good job at picking up these things.

Cat litter test: It did pick up about 50% of the cat litter that was on the carpet in front of the box. I thought it did a decent job, considering it is just like little pieces of gravel.

Why I took it back

The main reason was of course the fact that it skipped across the carpet. I really couldn’t put up with this, not for what I paid for the sweeper. The other problem that I encountered was static cling. I found that I would have tons of hair stuck to the front, sides and bottom of the Bissell Sweeper after I would finish. Not to big of a deal I guess, considering at least it wasn’t on the floor any more.

I think that this sweeper would probably be all right for a very low pile carpet, with not nearly as much hair as mine has! I ended up purchasing the "Bissell GO Vac", and am very pleased!
