The Bottom Line This opinion could have been in several categories, however I chose this one because I felt some tips on instruction would be very helpful.
My daughter bought the Nailene acrylic nail kit with her babysitting money. She was so eager to have her nails done. I had repeatedly advised her not to get them done in the salon because she is only 13 and has no job. I explained how expensive the up keep could be and how frequent it would need to be done. I used to get mine done in the salon 1 to 2 times a month and it cost $25 to $30 each time, not including the tip. When she brought the kit home I agreed to do her manicure for her. *Tip; if you are doing a manicure for someone else and you have acrylic nails on, where protective gloves or you’ll destroy your manicure. This is a great product to purchase if you have the time and inclination for a beautiful manicure. I have found that most nail polishes will stay on an acrylic base longer than on plain nails. With the Nailene acrylic kit, you can either do an overlay (just brushing the acrylic over you nails) or you can complete an entire manicure. This product can be purchased in any drug or department store. It is easy to find and fun to use. I feel it is definitely worth the effort to at least try this one out. Package contents: Acrylic powder, liquid acrylic, glue, brush, file, buffer, French tip nail set and a regular tip nail set. Ease of use: Now you can not do this alone, no matter what the kit says! The acrylic is professional powder and will harden very fast. First thing you have to do is navigate the tips to fit the person’s hand. This would be easier if the tips weren’t as soft and flimsy. However, I did discover that if you leave them on the little frame, they come with they are easier to work with. Just measure glue on tip and gently break from frame. After applying all the tips, it is time for the acrylic, which I must say, if not for the flimsy brush, would have been easier. After applying the acrylic (twice), just follow the easy instructions for filing and buffing and you are on your way to a beautiful manicure. I had fun doing this manicure because I had seen it done before and I always wondered if it was difficult. Although this is a great concept and very inexpensive, just $6.98, I would shop around before buying it. This kit is reusable and the initial manicure is beautiful when done correctly. There are a few things I discovered along the way that I would like to share with you. 1) You need a better quality brush. The bristles for this one a just a tad too long and it should be a bit wider to give you more control. You could get a smoother coat of acrylic with a better brush. I used a brush from my eye makeup kit. It was wider and thicker and gave me better coordination. 2) The files are not big enough to be used with ease. A regular size nail file would give you a better handle on the filing and a smoother finish. The files that come with the kit are about 1 ½” long and that is not workable. Same for the buffer. 3) If you put a coat of liquid acrylic over your nails after gluing on the tip and before starting with the powder, you’ll enhance the longevity of your manicure. This is something I learned by watching the professionals and asking a lot of questions. |
