I received this carrier as a birthday gift last January. Initially, my wife and I were looking for roof-top carriers, as we already had the system for our kayak. When we discovered that the price for one roof carrier was almost the same as a 3-bike rear-mounted carrier, we chose this one.
I finally got to use it this weekend. The directions were relatively easy to follow. Once on the car, the rack was very solid. The clips do not appear that they would damage the car in any way (as you would hope). I had the most trouble getting the bike on the rack. This was because my bike has an oversized tube frame that made the clearance tight. Once on, I had no concerns for the bike's stability (when I was a kid we had a cheap, flimsy bike carrier that fell off the back of the car while we were driving - fortunately the damage was minimal; we weren't going very fast). Six straps hold the carrier to the car, and four thick, foam pads protect the car and prevent the carrier from sliding.
The carrier fits a wide range of vehicles - the directions provide details for each model and year.
