kevlarian's Full Review: Sony Handycam® DCR-IP55 Micro MV Camcorder
Ok,
This product is just the coolest little gadget you can get yor hands on. It is small (smaller than my Kodak Digital Camera), light, and has an AWESOME picture.
It uses MPEG2 for recording so it is the same quality as a DVD (same resolution of 720x480 for NTSC). I can't get over the size of the MicroMV casette, simply amazing.
This little dynamo has everything you want, steady shot, digital zoom, 10x optical zoom, a TOUCHSCREEN menu system that can't be beat, Bluetooth for networking to the internet (you can email pictures and mpeg movie clips from the camera without ever downloading them to your laptop!).
The only problem I have is that it uses the (yet unproven) MicroMV format, which is not compatible with MiniDV. This is only a problem if you have software that you like to use for making move clips and composing your own videos. It comes with MovieShaker 3.1 which you can use to capture the video and them save in a different format, but if you like to capture with Premier or something else, don't count on support. ULEAD VS 7 now supports MicroMV (that is what I currently use).
Overall, this is an AWESOME camera, something that James Bond would be proud to own. If you want the latest and greatest, in something slightly larger than your average 35mm camera... this is the one for you!
