The most basic list of Spanish phrases for travellersMar 07 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line Practice these basic phrases, and think up clever ways to combine them, should you find yourself having a hard time being understood. I'll just get right into listing basic words/phrases that may be useful during a trip to Spain, with the assumption that you are someone that is uncomfortable with foreign language, who doesn't want to "learn" alot, and just needs the basics. All pronunciations I've written are geared for the native English speaker. Say the Spanish exactly how it looks. While Spanish colloquialisms vary from country to country, most of these phrases would serve you well in any Spanish-speaking country. Also note that, due to complications in some of the translation (as in the verb "to be"), and so as to not overburden you, some of my Spanish translations are not EXACTLY correct, but the person you are speaking to should understand you nonetheless, while realizing that you are "just a tourist"... Again, my goal is to make this as simple and basic for you as possible.
