Simply The BestMar 07 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line I listed these films as my personal top ten because they let me get a glimpse of a way of life that is forever gone. 1) McClintock - This is one of John Wayne's best films. It shows wit and humor as well as the best of the "old west". A must see. 2) Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid - A classic which stars Robert Redford and Paul Newman. It makes us see that, truely, you can be anything you want in the old west and have fun doing it! 3) True Grit - Another one by the "Duke", it is one of Wayne's best. Shows his soft and gruffy side. 4) Rooster Cogburn - I guess you might say that I am a John Wayne fan but together with Katheryn Hepburn in this epic adventure, they make the screen blaze. 5) Bonanza - Although this was a series, they did have a pilot and the Cartwright clan will make you feel right at home on the Ponderosa. From the big hearted giant, Hoss, to the mischievious Little Joe, you will learn to love them all. 6) Gunsmoke - Who could ever forget the longest running western on TV? With Marshall Matt Dillon and the ever suffering Miss Kitty, the old west can be relived once again, if you watch it. 7) The Shootist - Another John Wayne film, unfortunately, his last. His suffering from the effects of cancer are apparent but he gives one of the best performances of his long career. 8) Tombstone - Starring Kevin Costner, this movie brings back to life the one and only Wyatt Earp. Along with an all star cast, this movie is a must. 9) Calamity Jane - This movie may not be for everyone but it is one of the few westerns that shows women can be every bit as tough as men. 10) Quigley Down Under - Tom Selleck gives a wonderful performance in this western and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. |
